Android 12L Update for Surface Duo: Microsoft has started rolling out the Android 12L update to the Microsoft Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2. The new Android 12L update has changed the UI of the Surface Duo and Duo 2 making the devices look like Windows 11 devices.
It seems Microsoft is trying to the user experience of the Surface Duo consistent with its other products. Remember that the Surface Duo devices are the only Microsoft devices running Android OS. Other devices from the company run Windows OS and if you’re switching from another Microsoft device to your Surface Duo device, Microsoft does not want you to feel like you’ve left the Microsoft ecosystem.

Android 12L Update for Surface Duo
To achieve this, the company is fine-tuning the UI and user experience of the Surface Duo and Duo 2 with the Android 12L update to make both devices look more like Windows 11 devices. So, after installing the Android 12L update on your Surface Duo device, you will be getting the Windows 11 vibes even though it runs Android OS. However, to properly achieve this, the company made some modifications to the Android 12L.

They adjusted the Notification Shade, the Settings Screen, and the Activity Feed to make the Surface Duo devices look like Windows 11. This modification makes the icons, colors, and UI controls match the Windows style. The Android 12L update comes with new wallpapers that are also available on Windows and they come with matching accent color options.
The Surface Slim Pen 2 now also offers a feature that is available on Microsoft Surface PCs/computers. Users can now tap the button on top to reveal a quick launch bar with shortcuts for relevant apps on the Surface Duo devices. Other updates include new conversation widgets allowing you to put chats on the home screen and a new widget that shows OneDrive shots.

It’s obvious that Microsoft just like other OEMs is not going by the default Android OS looks. The company is adding its own modifications to make the Surface Duo device look and feel more like a Microsoft device.
