Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Review: if someone should walk up to me and asked of an Android phone recommendation, the first two devices that will cross my mind this Q4 of 2021 are the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

These smartphones brings better software and voice assistant, the photography experience is excellent and the pricing is the icing on the cake. The standard Pixel 6 starts at $599 and the 6 Pro starts at $899. Both devices are well priced by Google and the Pixel 6 to me, is a very good deal considering the features it brings at that very cheap price of $599.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Review: Design

To me when I think of designs I also think of durability. I like fancy and beautiful designs but again it must be solid and feel premium at the same time. And that exactly is what Google brings with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro being very solid and premium.

Variety is the spice of life which is the reason the Pixel 6 is smaller and more compact than the Pixel 6 Pro. So for those who loves big device, the Pixel 6 Pro is the right pick. But more interesting as well is the durability of these two. Both are water and dust resistant with IP68 rating, and they are also protected by Corning gorilla glass victus.

Overall, the weird and unique design of the Pixel 6/Pro doesnā€™t affect its durability. It is heavy and bulky which gives room for a better audio quality.

Display and Fingerprint Sensor

Google Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. The display is flat in design, while the Pixel 6 Pro brings a bigger touchscreen of 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED LTPO display with 120Hz refresh rate and curved design. Here, the Pro has more sharpness and quality but the Pixel 6 is not so far off.

Colours are great on both devices, while brightness levels are decent enough for indoors and outdoor operation. Scrolling through Facebook, twitter and other apps are interestingly fast and satisfying.

However, the in-display fingerprint scanner is very slow especially when you are in a dark area. I think when it comes to under display fingerprint, Google has a lot to learn from Samsung and OnePlus.

But in overall, I like the display quality of both smartphones especially that of the Pixel 6 Pro with LTPO panel that can go between 10Hz refresh and 120Hz refresh rate depending on what youā€™re doing.

Camera

The Pixel 6/ 6 Pro are A-grade when it comes to camera. Google stepped up the hardware which contributed immensely to the quality of photography. The Pixel 6 brings 50MP main cam alongside a 12MP ultrawide lens and the Pro adds a 48-megapixel telephoto lens to the mix to make it triple setup. While upfront, the Pro has 11.1MP selfie camera and the Pixel 6 has 8MP.

These two can take mouth watering pictures both in night and daytime. Simply put, Iā€™d say the Pixel 6ā€™s are excellent when it comes to photography. Although in some rare cases the TPU does over process images making it look unreal. But like I said, in some rare cases.

In addition, Google also introduced many special camera features, such as Magic Eraser, Face Unblur, Motion Mode and Speech Enhancement for selfie videos. Each of the feature helps to improve your photography experience

. For example, with the Magic Eraser feature, you can remove any unwanted object from your photos even after snapping. Itā€™s crazy and works fine sometimes but miss in some few cases when the background is too complicated. But the fact you can make this edit on the go from your phone is unbelievable.

In overall, Google Pixel 6/6 Pro are A-grade when it comes to the camera. It may not be perfect but it gives you many good experiences that will wipe away your doubt on what a great camera device should be like. But while the photography is great, the videography part is just average (below iPhone 13 Pro).

Performance and Software

This is the first time Google is using its own chipset on its Pixel devices. Tensor chip may not be as powerful and fast as Apple A15 bionic or Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipsets yet, but thereā€™s a lot of potential. I look forward to the Tensor chip being at par with Apple and Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets in the coming years.

On the Google Pixel 6, the Tensor chip is paired with 8GB RAM and 128/256 GB storage. The Pixel 6 Pro comes with 12 GB RAM and 128 ā€“ 512GB storage. Multitasking and switching of applications is very fast on both devices. Playing of games while screen recording simultaneously was very smooth and lag free.

In addition, the Tensor chip is very smart when it comes to AI and ML. It makes it easier for you to use voice commands to respond to chats/messages. You can literally do all the things you do while chatting, like you can ā€œdeleteā€ or ā€œsendā€ etc. All you have to do is to give the voice command and Google Tensor knows what to do. TheĀ  Google Tensor chipset is a whole new level of smartness.

More so, the Pixel 6 series run Android 12 out of the box. It is the most important software Google has ever developed. It is user friendly, easy to navigate and brought numerous features that are relatable and satisfying to use. Privacy is another key area that the Android 12 handled pretty well.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Review: Battery

The battery life you get is for a day and half usage. But if you are an intensive user like me, you can almost kill the battery in one day. Overall, the battery is decent for a full day usage while rocking 120Hz/90Hz refresh rate.

Verdict

Should you buy the Google Pixel 6/Pixel 6 Pro? Yes. If you have $899 right now and you want an Android recommendation, the first I will encourage you to get is the Google Pixel 6 Pro. While if you donā€™t have up to that amount, the Pixel 6 of $599 is a good alternative.

Overall, just know if you are getting the Pixel 6 series you are buying the smartest phone on the planet earth right now. And the cameras and display are good as well. Both are literally among the best phone to recommend this 2021.
