Google Pixel 7
The Google Pixel 7 is an affordable premium smartphone from Google. This phone is expected to be launched on October 6th, 2022 alongside the PRO model and it’ll be the successor to the Google Pixel 6. The Pixel 7 features the second generation of the Google Tensor chip and also has a rebranded design while still maintaining the same bar rear camera module as its predecessor.
To know more about the Google Pixel 7, allow me to break down the specifications of the device starting with the chipset, CPU, and GPU.
Chipset, CPU, and GPU
The Google Pixel 7 features the Google Tensor G2 chipset. This 5G chipset is built on a 4nm process technology. This chipset/SoC has an Octa-core CPU with a maximum speed clocked at 2.85GHz. It has two high-performance Cortex-X1 cores with a speed clocked at 2.85GHz, two big-efficiency Cortex-A76 cores with a speed clocked at 2.35GHz, and four small-efficiency Cortex-A55 cores with a speed clocked at 1.80GHz.
The CPU cores are paired with the Arm Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. This chipset is fast and also power efficient because of its fast CPU cores and small fabrication process. Other exciting features of this chipset are that it has support for LPDDR5 RAM tech, UFS 3.1 storage, Bluetooth 5.3, and can record videos in 4K resolution. The peak download and upload speeds of this chipset are 8Gbps and 4Gbps respectively.
Google Pixel 7 features a triple rear camera and a single front camera. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary camera with 1.2µm dual pixels PDAF, f/1.9 aperture, 25mm focal length, Laser AutoFocus, and OIS features. This primary camera is supported by a 114˚ 12MP ultra-wide lens and an 11.1MP front-facing ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 20mm focal length.
The back camera of the Pixel 7 can steady videos in 4K resolution while the front camera can record steady videos in 1080p resolution. Available camera features for photography and videography in this smartphone include Dual-LED flash, Pixel Shift, Auto-HDR, panorama, Auto-HDR, panorama, Dual Pixel PDAF, Laser AF, OIS, gyro-EIS, etc.
Display, Design, and Durability
The display of the Google Pixel 7 is a 6.3-inches 1080p AMOLED panel with support for a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. The display is a flat 1080 x 2400px resolution, is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and has an Always-on display feature. The back panel of the phone is also slightly curved blending with the flat front screen and making the frame relatively slim.
Google Pixel 7 is made of a Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), and aluminum frame. It is IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins), Nano-SIM (dual), and eSIM. The front screen has a simple punch hole on the top of the screen that houses the front camera while the back panel has a camera module that runs horizontally across the top half of the phone.
The Google Pixel 7 has its volume rocker and power button on the right side of the frame of the phone. It has a microphone, stereo speaker grill, and USB Type-C charging port on the bottom of the frame. Sadly, there is no microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack port.
RAM, Storage, and Battery
The Google Pixel 7 comes in two RAM and storage configurations. It has 8GB of RAM + 128GB and 8GB of RAM + 256GB of internal storage. There is no space in the phone to insert a microSD card but you can make use of cloud storage services if you need additional storage space.
A 4,700mAh battery powers the Google Pixel 7 and it has support for 30W wired charging and 21W wireless charging. Other charging features include reverse wireless charging and USB Power Delivery 3.0. You can charge the battery using the 30W wired charger from 0 to 100% in about 65 minutes.
