Display and Design

The Google Pixel 7a has the same design as the Google Pixel 7. Both phones have the same rear design and the same flat front screen with a punch hole on the top center of the screen housing the selfie cameras. But, the display size and features of both phones are different.

The Google Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch display which is bigger than the 6.1-inch display of the Google Pixel 7a. Although both phones have the same OLED panel and 90Hz refresh rate, the Pixel 7 has a bright screen. The peak brightness of the screen of the Pixel 7 is 1400 nits while that of the Pixel 7a is 1000 nits.

Another difference is the display protection. While the display of the Pixel 7a is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, that of the Pixel 7 is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus which is a tougher glass. Overall, the Pixel 7 has a better display than the Pixel 7a.

Chipset: Performance and Gaming

The performance of both smartphones is the same. This is because both phones feature the same Google Tensor G2 chipset. This 5nm process chipset is a 5G chipset that features an octa-core processor and the impressive Mali-G710 MP7 GPU from ARM.

When playing games, processing data, and rendering graphics on both phones, you can hardly tell the difference. Both smartphones offer almost the same performance and gaming experience.

The camera sensors on both smartphones are different. The Pixel 7a has a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP front camera while the Pixel 7 has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10.8MP front camera. However, the Google Pixel 7 is the better phone for taking photos and recording videos.

The cameras of the Google Pixel 7 have Laser AF but that of the Pixel 7a does not. Although both phones can record videos in 4K resolution with the cameras, the Pixel 7 supports 10-bit HDR while the Pixel 7a does not.

The Pixel 7a is a good camera phone but for that extra contrast and sharpness, the Pixel 7 is better. The Pixel 7 also takes better photos in low-light conditions. If you’re a camera person, I’ll recommend the Pixel 7 for taking photos ahead of the Pixel 7a.

Battery and Charging

The battery inside the Google Pixel 7 is a 4,355mAh cell while a 4,385mAh battery is inside the Google Pixel 7a. Both smartphones support wired and wireless charging. The battery of both phones can last you for a full day and up to 8 hours of intensive use.

Software and other features

Both the Google Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 booths Android 13 out of the box and will get up to three years of software updates. The UI, icons, and navigation on both phones are the same.

Other features available in both phones are an under-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, USB Type-C 3.2, GPS, Always-on display, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.3, etc. None of these phones have space for a microSD card and/or a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Google Pixel 7 is a better smartphone than the Pixel 7a but it’s also the more expensive phone. However, you can currently buy the Pixel 7 for the same price as the Pixel 7a from BestBuy using the details in the table at the top of this article.

This price drop in the Pixel 7, makes it the best phone for you to buy here. Buying the Pixel 7 means you’ll get all the extra features like a brighter display, faster charging, more camera features, tougher screen protection, etc for the same price as the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 7a is a good phone but compared to the Pixel 7, the Pixel 7 is better.
