Google Pixel 7a vs Xiaomi POCO F5: If you’re looking to buy a good-performing midrange phone, then you might want to consider buying the Google Pixel 7a or Xiaomi POCO F5. Both smartphones are among the best mid-range phones of the year but which is better between these two?

Considering the specifications and price of both phones, the Google Pixel 7a is the better smartphone to buy. Now, there are a couple of reasons why I recommend the Pixel 7a ahead of the POCO F5 and I’ll explain all in this Google Pixel 7a vs Xiaomi POCO F5 article.

Display: 90Hz vs 120Hz

The screen of the Pixel 7a is smaller than that of the POCO F5 and it also has a lesser 90Hz refresh rate compared to the 120Hz refresh rate of the POCO phone. If you’re a fan of big-screen phones, you’ll prefer the 6.67-inch of POCO F5 to the 6.1-inch of Pixel 7a. The display panel of both phones is AMOLED and supports HDR10.

The POCO F5 has a smoother display and response faster than the display of the Pixel 7a thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate. The display of both phones has a punch hole that houses the selfie camera but the rear design of both phones is different. The bezels of the screen of the Pixel 7a are thicker than that of the POCO F5.

Chipset: Performance and Gaming

The Google Pixel 7a has a better performance than the Xiaomi POCO F5 and this is because of the chipset inside. The Pixel 7a features the Tensor G2 chipset which has faster CPU cores and is paired with a more powerful GPU than the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset in the POCO F5.

Although both smartphones are 5G enabled, the Pixel 7a is better than the POCO F5 when it comes to playing games, processing data, and rendering graphics. Don’t get it wrong, the POCO F5 has a very good performance but the performance of the Pixel 7a is just better on every level.

Camera: Photography and Videography

The camera sensors on both smartphones are different. The Pixel 7a has a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP front camera while the POCO F5 has a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 16MP front camera. Both smartphones have similar camera features but the Pixel 7a has more.

When taking photos, the Pixel 7a produces sharper images and while both phones can record 4K videos with their front and back cameras, the Pixel 7a has more stabilization features. For example, the POCO F5 only has the gyro-EIS and OIS stabilization features while the Pixel 7a has Pixel Shift, OIS, and gyro-EIS stabilization features.

For their prices, the POCO F5 and Pixel 7a are really good camera smartphones. But, if you ask me, I prefer the photos and videos shot on the Pixel 7a to ones shot on the POCO F5.

Battery and Charging

The battery inside the POCO F5 is a 5,000mAh cell which is bigger than the 4,385mAh cell inside the Pixel 7a. Both smartphones support fast charging but the Pixel 7a supports wireless charging while the POCO F5 does not.

Although the battery inside the Xiaomi POCO F5 is bigger and last longer than the battery inside the Pixel 7a. The battery of both phones can give you more than 8 hours of screen time. I end up with about 20% of the battery left on either phone after normal use every day.

Software and other features

Both smartphone boot Android 13 out of the box. But while the Xiaomi POCO F5 will get up to two years of software updates, the Google Pixel 7a will get only three. This means the Pixel 7a offers an extra Android OS update.

The POCO F5 has space for a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the Pixel 7a does not. Pixel 7a supports USB Type-C 3.2 while the POCO F5 supports USB Type-C 2.0 and OTG. The display of the POCO F5 is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5 which is a stronger glass than the Gorilla Glass 3 protection used in the Pixel 7a.

Pixel 7a vs POCO F5: Price

The price of the Google Pixel 7a is $499 and it comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage while the price of the POCO F5 with 8GB + 256GB storage is €479. The POCO F5 is more expensive but also has bigger storage and you can buy it for just €379 using the details in the table above.

Google Pixel 7a vs Xiaomi POCO F5: Verdict

The Google Pixel 7a is a better smartphone than the Xiaomi POCO F5. The Pixel 7a has a better chipset, a better camera system, wireless charging, and is cheaper which makes it a more premium mid-range phone than the POCO F5.

The Xioami POC F5 is a very good phone to buy considering you get good performance, a 120Hz screen, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. However, for the reasons above, I’ll recommend the Pixel 7a ahead of the POCO F5.
