You should take note that
- A report is claiming that Google will only produce less than 1 million Pixel 5 device this year
- depending on user response and market sales, Google can also decide to adjust the production
- The Google Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G will be launched at Google’s “Launch Night In” event later today.
- In the first half of 2020, report has it that Google only shipped 1.5 million units of the Pixels which is below the target sales of Google (blame it on Covid 19).
Along with the new Chromecast and Nest-branded smart speaker, Google will be launching its first 5G Pixel devices later today. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Google has set a surprisingly modest sales target for the Pixel 5 ahead of the event, a report from Nikkei Asia claims.

It seems, Google might only produce about 800,000 units of the Pixel 5 this year. The combined production volume for the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 4a is currently estimated to be about 3 million units.
No thanks to Covid 19, the demands for cell phones has lowered around the globe. And even the almighty Google has to pause its plans of moving more productions to Vietnam. Although the Pixel 4a is being produced in Vietnam, the Pixel 5 is being manufactured in Shenzhen, China.
A source close to Google told Nikkei:
Google gave a relatively conservative order forecast this year because its flagship Pixel 4 did not sell well last year, and because COVID-19 is causing their team to stay on the safe side concerning handsets for now.
Despite setting an ambitious sales target of 8-10 million sales last year, Google was only able to ship 7.2 million. Sales of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL which are the company’s flagship was disappointing. According to data from IDC, Google only shipped 1.5 million phones in the first six months of 2020, which is a massive decline compared to the 4.1 million units it sold in the first half of 2019.
