Magic Fold and Magic Flip: Since its break from Huawei, Honor has been working hard to establish its name as one of the best smartphone company in the world. Their recent smartphones are coming with cutting-edge technologies and it’s very easy to notice the move.

With so many OEMs fighting for the user base left by Huawei, Honor is taking a step further to come into that race. And one way the company is joining the race is by releasing a foldable smartphone in the last quarter of 2021.

We’ve heard rumors about the Honor foldable phones but for the first time we have news that it will come under the Honor Magic series. Couple of trademarks spotted today suggest so. A never heard and seen before Honor Magic Fold and Honor Magic Flip names have been registered by Honor.

Both names have been registered early this month at the office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). This new trademarks were first reported by DealInTech. And based on these trademarks, it’s okay to conclude that those are the official names of the incoming Honor foldable smartphones.

The Honor Magic Fold will likely be a tablet-like fold while the Honor Magic Flip will come as a clamshell-like flip fold design. It means, the former will look like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2. While the later will look like the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr.

Honor Joins list of companies to release foldable smartphones later this year

There is no doubt that Samsung has held on to the foldable smartphone market. The only close competition it had was Huawei which got knocked out with the US ban. Xiaomi also stepped up with the release of the Mi Mix Fold earlier this year.

But it seems that Samsung is about to face more competition on the foldable smartphone market soon. Honor just joined the growing list of smartphone manufacturers that will likely bring foldable smartphones later this year. With all these other foldable phones coming, Samsung is still set to release its own foldable phones by August.

According to reports, the Honor Magic Fold will make use of BOE and Visionox OLED displays. With regards to hardware, the new foldable device will likely use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 since Honor and Qualcomm are already partnering for new smartphones.

If the time is even right, it Honor might use the Snapdragon 888+ chipset. Since the focus of Honor right now is the recently released Honor 50 series, it appears the foldable smartphones will come later towards the end of this year.
