Infinix S5 Review: Is This Really An Upgrade Over its Predecessor S4?

Infinix S5 Review: looking at the newly released Infinix S5, I’ve tried so much to see how it is different from its predecessor Infinix S4. However have found only little things that separate it from the Infinix S4. But would the difference be convincing enough to make you upgrade from the S4 to the newly released Infinix S5? Well, after this honest review of mine, I will leave you to answer that question.

You see, I was at the launch of the Infinix S4 earlier this year Q1 in Victoria Island, Lagos. When the S4 was launched, it was mainly targeted at the youth. Of which the tech company succeeded as the smartphone trended all over the country.

The smartphone was among the first to feature a triple lens camera, with a 3GB or 6GB RAM option, an Octa-core processor, a 4000mAh battery capacity, a 32MP selfie camera, and among the few others to come with a dewdrop notch display design back then. And all of these amazing features was at a very affordable price. Thus, it was no surprise that the Infinix S4 was successful in the Nigerian market.

No wonder everyone was looking forward to the release of the Infinix S5. Now it is here, was it worth the anticipation? Well, for the purpose of a detailed review, the info here will be broken into segments to cover all the relevant details you need to know.

PRICE

The Infinix S5 price starts at 53,000 naira for the 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant. While the 6GB RAM + 128 GB ROM goes for 62,500 naira. At such such price, Infinix S5 is thus the most affordable 6GB RAM smartphone you can purchase in Nigeria currently. This is a welcome development from Infinix.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

Infinix S5 has a 6.6′-inches IPS LCD Touchscreen. Unlike the 6.2′-inches that was featured on the S4. The Infinix S5 is also the first smartphone with “Punch Hole display design” from the tech company.

Moreover, the smartphone would have been more better if it did featured an Amoled panel just like the Infinix Note 6. But sadly we have to take it the way it is, an IPS LCD Touchscreen.

However, if you are a lover of smartphones with big screen, then Infinix S5 is for you. “The phone get big screen nor be here”.

Infinix S5 Review: CAMERA

The major upgrade on the Infinix S5 over its predecessor S4 starts from here. From our observation of the camera comparison between both phones. The Infinix S5 performs better than the Infinix S4.

While the Infinix S4 has a triple lens camera, the Infinix S5 on the other hand came with a Quad rear cameras. More also, the Infinix S5 cameras are more exciting to use than that of the S4. See the camera features of both smartphones below:

INFINIX S5 CAMERAS

• 16 MP (main shooter)
• 8 MP (ultrawide)
• 2 MP (macro lens)
• 2 MP (depth sensor) + 32MP selfie camera.

INFINIX S4

• 13 MP (main shooter)
• 8 MP
• 2 MP (depth sensor) + 32MP selfie camera.

Thus, if you are a camera person, I’ll advise you to upgrade from Infinix S4 to the Infinix S5.

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE

Infinix S5 runs out of the box on Android 9 Pie, but may likely not upgrade to Android 10.

The smartphone comes in two variants, a 6GB RAM + 64 GB ROM version and a 6GB RAM + 128 GB ROM. This I must say is a good move by Infinix. Currently in Nigeria, Infinix offers the cheapest smartphone with 6GB RAM. Thanks to the Infinix S5.

However my problem with the hardware is the Chipset that powered the Infinix S5. Why on earth did Infinix use the same Mediatek Helio P22 chipset that powered the S4 on the Infinix S5? I thought there was supposed to be an upgrade? Infinix disappointed lots of persons by this single act.

At least, I personally expected to see Mediatek Helio P35 or Helio G9OT but NO, same old P22 was used instead. Very disappointing!

Thus if you are a fan of hardware, no need to upgrade from the Infinix S4 to the S5. Because both smartphones offer the same thing. Except you don’t care about hardware, then it’s fine to upgrade.

Infinix S5 Review: BATTERY

Infinix S5 comes with a 4000mAh battery capacity which is OK for your daily usage.

Infinix S5 Review: CONCLUSION

Infinix tried bringing something to the table but the only problem is that, it wasn’t properly cooked. With the likes of Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Samsung and others now in Nigeria, Infinix must improve if they want to keep their space in the Nigerian tech market.
