Instagram is adding a new feature that will allow users to include their preferred pronouns on their Instagram profile.

Generally, the main aim of adding this feature is to normalize gender discussions.

Until now, there is no separate space to include pronouns in your profile. And including it in your bio takes up the limited 150 character allocated for your short bio. Well, Instagram is switching things up and working in changing the process.

According to the The Verge, Instagram has announced that they’re working on a dedicated field that will allow its users to add their own pronouns. This integrates the pronouns into your account profile, and they’ll show up to the right of your name in a grey hue.

With this feature up and running, you can now list other interesting facts about yourself. It also makes it easier for people to show the personal pronouns in a more natural way.

You can choose to make your pronouns public or private but as at yesterday you can now add up to four pronouns to your profile. This feature will be turned on automatically if you have an Instagram account and you’re under 18.

This feature is currently available in done countries (we don’t know which). Also, we don’t know the list of pronouns available from Instagram.

But, if your own pronouns aren’t available from the preset list, you can fill this request form to contact Instagram support team.

Facebook has implemented this type of feature back in 2014. LinkedIn also introduced something similar on its platform in March. It’s nice to see Instagram joining in on the action.
