Dimensity 1200 vs Snapdragon 888 Comparison: these two flagship chipsets would power many high-end smartphones this year 2021. But there are many differences between these two SOCs that are worth knowing. Below are the processors specifications.

Manufacturing Process

MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is built on 6nm process. While the Snapdragon 888 is built on 5nm process. The Snapdragon 888 is superior because a 5nm chip consumes less battery and has better performance.

CPU Cores

On the CPU, both chipsets have 1+3+4 CPU architecture. The Dimensity 1200 is based on ARM Cortex-A78 big cores that is clocked @3.0GHz frequency.

While the Snapdragon 888 is based on ARM Cortex-X1 (@2.84 GHz). The Snapdragon’s Cortex-X1 is 23% faster than the Cortex-A78 even though its frequency is clocked low.

GPU

When it comes to gaming and graphics rendering, the Snapdragon 888 with Adreno 660 GPU shines again. The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 features the old fashioned ARM Mali-G77 of last two years with only 9 core counts. Thus, the Adreno 660 is elevated with its 35% GPU boasts over its predecessor.

DISPLAY

At its very best, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 supports QHD display at 90 Hz refresh rate or you can set it to a FHD+ display with 168 Hz refresh rate enabled.

The Snapdragon 888 on the other hand supports a 4k display at 60 Hz refresh rate or you can set it to a QHD display with 144 Hz refresh. These two displays are good and choice here should be based on user preference.

CAMERA

Both SOCs support single camera up to 200 MP. According to latest update, Samsung is already in the work to develop a sensor up to 250 MP.

OTHERS

At its highest 5G speed, the Snapdragon 888 download speed is up to 7.5 Gbps and upload speed is up to 3 Gbps. Which surpasses the Dimensity 1200’s 4.7 Gbps download speed.

Both chips support 16 GB of RAM maximum. But with different memory type. The Snapdragon 888 LPDDR5 RAM is 1.5 times faster than the LPDDR4X in the MediaTek Dimensity 1200.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 supports 4k video recording and 4k video playback. While Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 took it higher by supporting 8k video recording and 8k video playback. Bluetooth 5.2 is available on these chipsets and both also support NFC.

When it comes to AI and ML, the Snapdragon 888 leads again. The Hexagon 780 AI processor can perform 26 Trillion Operations per second. And that tripled the number of operations the MediaTek Dimensity 1200’s AI processor can perform.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the winner of this comparison. It has the best performance and its also the most power efficient of these two.

  1. The memories in the Dimensity 1200 are the LPDDRX4, but at 4266 mhz speed, against the 3200 of the LPDDR5 on the Snapdragon 888, version 5 does not basically mean that it is faster than the LPDDRX4 deliberately
    About the integrated 5g dual band, hardware-assisted AV1 decoding, things the Snapdragon 888 doesn’t have, nor ray tracing and DSR for HDR in 4ka video
    6-core ISP with its

    Dimensity 1200, or mt6893, is not soc to rival Snapdragon 888, are completely of distinct ranges
