Nothing Phone 1

Nothing Phone 1 is a mid-range smartphone manufactured by the Nothing company. Its design gives you the transparent look and looks really different from most phones out there. It’s an Android phone that features the Snapdragon 778+ and it has support for 5G.

To know more about this smartphone, let’s break down the specifications. I’ll start with the chipset and conclude with the software and sensor.

Nothing Phone 1: Chipset, CPU, and GPU

The Nothing Phone (1) features the Snapdragon 778+ 5G chipset. This chipset is built on the 6nm process technology and it features an octa-core CPU with a speed clocked at 2.5GHz. Complementing the CPU is the Adreno 642L GPU which performs really well.

The peak download speed of the chipset is 3.7Gbps and its peak upload speed is 1.6Gbps. The Snapdragon 778+ 5G chipset can decode and encode videos in 4K resolution, has support for NFC, and its Bluetooth version is Bluetooth 5.2.

The chipset also has an impressive memory speed of 3200 MHz and uses LPDDR5 RAM technology which is pretty fast. Truth is, the Snapdragon 778+ 5G chipset is not the best Android chipset right now, but for a mid-range phone, it has cool features and the performance justifies the price tag.

Nothing Phone 1: Cameras

Nothing Phone 1 comes with dual rear cameras and a single selfie camera. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary camera and a 16MP ultra-wide lens. While on the front it has a 16MP selfie camera. We expect the quality of photos and videos to be good but you’ll have to wait for our full review of the Nothing Phone (1) to find out.

The 50MP primary camera can shoot videos in 4k resolution while the 16MP front camera can shoot videos in 1080p resolution. There is more to be said about the cameras of this smartphone but I’ll leave it for the review of this phone.

Nothing Phone 1: Display, Design, and Build

Nothing Phone (1) has an impressive and compact 6.55-inch OLED display. The display has support for a 120Hz refresh rate and it’s quite colorful. The front display is flat on all sides and the bezels are quite noticeable.

As for design, it has a punch hole on the top left of the screen. The back panel is designed to give you this transparent feel and the phone looks boxy. The build materials for this phone are front glass and aluminum frame. There are Multiple LED lights on the back (notifications, charging progress, camera fill light). It also features Blinking red light on the back (video recording indicator).

Looking at the design of the Nothing Phone 1 looks might look weird for a while but then you’ll also have to appreciate its uniqueness. From the information so far, the phone looks solid and the design looks unique.

Nothing Phone 1: RAM, Storage, and Battery

Nothing Phone 1 has three RAM and storage configurations. It has 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. This device has no space for storage expansion via a microSD card slot.

The Nothing Phone (1) is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for a 45W wired fast charge and a 5W wireless charge. It has a USB Type-C port but will not ship with any charger in the box.

Nothing Phone 1: Software and Sensors

Nothing Phone 1 boot Nothing OS based on Android 12 out of the box. Words on the street are that this phone will get at least three years of major software updates and security patches. You can download and install apps from the Google Play Store on this phone and even download major updates over OTA.
