Display, Design, and Durability

The Nothing Phone 1 has an unusual design. It has a transparent back cover with 900 mini bulbs that light up as a notification or fill up for close-up pictures when you want to take macro images. The point is that Nothing Phone 1’s design is unique. It completely stands out from the rest of the mid-range phones in the market. As for the Xiaomi Poco F4, it has a familiar design. And it’s available in different colors but it’s not as eye catchy as the Nothing Phone 1.

But when it comes to the display quality, both phones are cool but the Xiaomi Poco F4 is kinda superior. It has a 6.67-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and HDR10+. The Poco X4 screen has a peak of 1300 nits. Comparing this to the Nothing Phone 1 – you will get a more compact size of 6.55” FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+. While the peak brightness is 1200 nits.

These two smartphones are protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and have an IP53 splash resistance and are dust proof. Thus, for those who like to be different or stand out from the crowd, the design of the Nothing Phone 1 is what can give you that vibe but the Poco F4 has a better display quality.

Camera

For some reason, both primary cameras can take crisp pictures. With the Nothing Phone 1 has a 50MP OIS cam, the Poco F4 features a 64MP OIS main cam. Both smartphones’ primary cameras are good for photography and videography. However, the Nothing Phone 1 has the better Ultrawide camera. The Nothing Phone 1’s 50MP ultra-wide lens is better than the Poco F4’s 8MP cam.

The rear camera on both phones can record video in 4K but the front is capped at 1080p. Overall, I’m so impressed with what Nothing Phone 1 brings on the camera aspect. I’ll pick its camera over that of the Poco F4 anytime.

Performance | 5G | Configuration

When it comes to performance, the Xiaomi Poco F4 is superior. Although the Nothing Phone 1 comes close, the Poco F4 is a better performer. The choice of the chipset on the Poco F4 gave it an edge over the Nothing Phone 1. It is powered by a Snapdragon 870 5G chipset with 6/8/12 GB RAM and 128/256 GB storage. There’s no room for an Sd card. 

Nothing uses the Snapdragon 778G+ 5G chipset to power the Phone (1). That chip is excellent but is slightly behind in performance compared to the mighty Snapdragon 870 5G chip on Poco F4. The Nothing Phone 1 does come in 8/12 GB RAM and 128/256 GB storage.

Software

Currently, there’s no OS as fun, clean, and fast as the Nothing OS. We wish they will keep it like this forever. Let’s take a moment to talk about the Nothing OS. This is the company’s first skin software and it is based on Android 12. It is interesting to also know that Nothing has promised three years of software upgrades and four years of security patches once in two months.

According to Nothing, its OS will not have bloatware (free of pre-installed apps). And you remember the 900 mini LED lights on the back of the Nothing phone 1? You can tweak those lights to match your ringing tone or notifications. 

The Xiaomi MIUI 13 is not as fun as the Nothing OS. It is a heavy sort of and even though, Xiaomi has promised multiple of years software updates and many years of security patches too. But overall, both phones are well-to-do when it comes to the software but I’ll choose the Nothing OS over MIUI 13 right now.

Nothing Phone 1 vs Xiaomi Poco F4: Battery

The Nothing Phone 1 has a 4,500 mAh battery capacity with a 45W wired fast charge and a 15W wireless charge. In contrast, the 4,500mAh battery of the Xiaomi Poco F4 is paired with 67W fast charge support but no wireless. The Poco F4 charges faster but the Nothing Phone 1 is more user-friendly because of its reverse wireless charging system for earbuds or even smartwatches.

The base variant of both phones is priced alike. The Xiaomi Poco F4 with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is priced at about £399. While the Nothing Phone 1 at a similar price tag brings 8GB RAM + 128GB storage.

Nothing Phone 1 vs Xiaomi Poco F4: Verdict

The Poco F4 is the king of value for money. If so, it’s safe to call Nothing Phone 1 the prince of value for money. Well, the Poco F4 has a better display and offers a flagship tier performance. However, the Nothing Phone 1 is unique for many reasons. First, it has a top-notch design and a better camera experience. And of course, faster and cleaner software too. 

The Poco F4 will be hard to dethrone as the king of the budget premium midrange devices -the value is insane at such a budget price tag.
