Nubia Z40S Pro is a premium smartphone manufactured by ZTE/Nubia. This is the 2022 upgrade of the Nubia Z40 Pro released a few months ago. The Nubia Z40S Pro comes with a new and refreshed chipset while still maintaining a similar design and looks to the previously released Z40 Pro.

To know more about the Nubia Z40S Pro, allow me to break down the specifications of the device starting with the chipset, CPU, and GPU.

Chipset, CPU, and GPU

The Nubia Z40S Pro features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This new Qualcomm 5G chipset is built on TSMC’s 4nm process node. The chipset/SoC features an Octa-core CPU with a speed clocked at 3.19GHz and an enhanced Adreno 730 GPU. The peak download speed of this chipset is above 10Gbps and its peak upload speed is above 5Gbps.

The storage technology is UFS 3.1 and the RAM technology is LPDDR5. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has lots of improved features and handles heat better making it an efficient chipset. To assist in the performance of the device, ZTE/Nubia also included an advanced cooling system in the Nubia Z40S Pro to help the chipset perform at a high level.

The CPU inside the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip is faster and the GPU is also very powerful. The chipset can handle any graphics intense game you throw it way and the use of the phone is smooth thanks to the fast response and fast CPU cores.

Cameras

Nubia Z40S Pro has a triple rear camera and a single front camera. On the rear, it has a 64MP primary camera with PDAF and OIS features. The primary camera is supported by an 8MP periscope telephoto lens that has PDAF, OIS, and 5x optical zoom features. The last camera on the rear is a 50MP ultra-wide lens with an AF feature.

On the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera that can record steady video in 1080p resolution. The 64MP primary camera can record steady videos in 8K resolution. The camera features of the Nubia Z40S Pro are PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom, gyro-EIS, AF, Dual-LED flash, panorama, and HDR.

Display, Design, and Build

The display size of the Nubia Z40S Pro is 6.67-inch and it has an AMOLED panel, supports a 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+. Its display brightness is up to 1000 nits and the front screen is flat with a Corning Gorilla Glass protecting the display. The back panel is also flat making the phone feel boxy in the hands.

The flat front screen has a simple punch-hole design while on the rear, it has a camera module that spreads horizontally across the top and the three camera sensors are clearly visible. Nubia Z40S Pro is made of a Glass front, aluminum frame, and glass back. There is no certified water and dustproof for this device.

The Nubia Z40S Pro looks and feels premium to hold. It is also a boxy device thanks to the flat back and front screen. The volume button is located on the left side of the frame while the power button is located on the right side of the frame. The USB Typ-C port, speaker, and microphone are located on the bottom frame. It has no space for a 3.5mm headphone jack.

RAM, Storage, and Battery

The Nubia Z40S Pro has five RAM and storage configurations. It has 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 512GB storage, and 18GB RAM + 1TB storage. This device has no space for storage expansion via a microSD card slot, so you can’t expand storage.

The regular model of the Nubia Z40S Pro is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for an 80W wired fast charge. There is also a Nubia Z40S Pro that is powered by a 4,600mAh battery with support for a 120W fast charge. The model with 120W fast also has support for 15W magnetic wireless charging.

Software and Sensors

The Nubia Z40S Pro boots MyOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box. This phone will get at least three years of major software updates and four years of monthly security patches. You can download and install apps from the Google Play Store on this phone and even download major updates over OTA.
