The Nvidia RTX 4090 is faster than RTX 4080 by at least 25%. In some other games, the flagship RTX 4090 even had higher scores. We are not surprised by the performance gap between these two because it was Nvidia’s plan right from the onset for the RTX 4090 to be better. It’s so good that even AMD’s best GPU at the moment can’t even match.
Here’s how the specs between the Nvidia RTX 4090 vs Nvidia RTX 4080 compare. The RTX 4090 is a powerful flagship with a monster performance. While the RTX 4080 is positioned as the top midrange. In detail, the RTX 4090 has a clock speed of 2.53 GHz which is almost at par with the RTX 4080 model which has 2.51 GHz, and 16,384 CUDA cores as opposed to the 9,728 of the 4080 model. And even the RTX 4090 has 24GB GDDR6X Memory size as opposed to the 16GB of the RTX 4080.

The indicative raw performance shows the RTX 4080 GPU lacking behind in an early benchmark shared by @zed_wang. Nvidia RTX 4090 scored 35,704 on Time Spy while the RTX 4080 had 28,599- which is about 25 percent behind the RTX 4090. And even on Blender, the free and open-source 3D modelling application, the RTX 4080 was about 30% slower than the RTX 4090.
One thing for sure is that the Nvidia RTX 4090 is faster than the RTX 4080 but good luck finding another GPU that is better than it. The RTX 4090 is already on sale while the RTX 4080’s open sale will commence on November 16.
