The OnePlus 8 Pro is about $300-$400 cheaper than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. But this won’t be much of a concern if the Samsung Phone beats it hands down comparison right?

Network Connectivity

Both phones gives you same features when it comes to internet connectivity. There is 5G network available in both phones(depending on the variant). They also use 2G, 3G and 4G networks which is pretty standard judging from the fact that 5G network is currently not available in most countries.

So for a start both phones are tied in this category. You get same value for the money spent here. Now lets move on to the build, design and display category to see where the differences begins.

Build, Design and Display

Both phones are built with sane materials, front glass, back glass and alluminium frame. Both use AMOLED display but the OnePlus phone gives you 1Billion colors which is incredible. It gets even more interesting.

The design of the OnePlus phone at first sight looks more premium. With it’s display rolling down it’s edges and a tiny punch hole at the top left. But, that does not mean it offer better user experience. For example, when operating the phone with a single hand, your finger can interrupt the use of the screen as it will be touching the sides.

This is quite different from what you will experience when using the Samsung Galaxy phone. It has a somewhat curve screen that maintains premium look and also promises better user experience.

Well, you have decide between a middle punch hole of the Galaxy S20 or the top left punch hole of the OnePlus 8 Pro. As for me, I’ll go with the middle punch hole because I like it better.

Another feature that comes in both phones is the 120Hz refresh rate. The OnePlus phone comes with a better PPI density which makes the disply brighter than that of the Samsung phone.

So when it comes to display it is fair to conclude that the cheaper phone stood up to the more expensive phone here in every angle.

Operating System and Chipset

Both phones uses the latest Android 10 which is great. The difference will have to be the company software that comes with both phones

The SOC of both phones are same. They use the Qualcomm SOC, the Snapdragon 865 (7nm+). This SOC is 5G based and uses fast GPU and comes with some incredible AI capabilities. Point is, what the Galaxy S20 Ultra can do, the OnePlus 8 Pro can do it too.

Internal Storage and RAM

The 8GB/12GB RAM of the OnePlus phone is good but the Samsung phone comes with a bigger 12GB/16GB RAM. The maximum internal storage for the OnePlus 8 Pro is 256GB which is smaller when compared to the 512GB found in the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

You might feel this is less important which might be true. But, you will start seen the value of the bigger RAM and Internal Storage when you shoot 4K videos. Those videos take lots of space and with the Samsung Galaxy, you get more storage option.

Also, there is no external storage space option in the OnePlus 8 Pro but this option is available and I n the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Camera

The 48MP quad rear camera setup of the OnePlus 8 Pro is good but can’t be compared with the 108MP quad rear camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. We have to also give OnePlus credit here though, because from live test, the photos and videos from the OnePlus phone is incredible.

But, that doesn’t mean it outshines the photos shot with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Even the OnePlus phone is not capable of shooting 8K videos, a feature that looks soft as a KFC burger to the Samsung phone.

You can watch a video of Mr Whoistheboss on YouTube with the camera live test. Click Here to watch the video.

Battery

OnePlus 8 Pro comes with 4510 mAh battery which is good but the 5000 mAh battery found the the Samsung Galaxy battery is better. Both phones comes with fast charge enabled.

Prices

The price of Samsung Galaxy starts from about $1,200 while the price of the OnePlus 8 Pro is about $900. It is clear that the OnePlus is very good but still need some tweak to be on the level of the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

It’s decision time and the question is, will you purchase the OnePlus 8 Pro for a lesser price for it’s quality or buy the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with all it’s feature for a more expensive price?

Let us know what you think in the comment section below. It has been a very interesting OnePlus 8 Pro vs Galaxy S20 Ultra comparison. Don’t you think?
