A new report has confirmed that OnePlus might launch its own foldable phones soon. According to the report, the company is getting set to launch two foldable smartphones this year. As per the report, the foldable phones will be called OnePlus V Flip (Clamshell foldable) and OnePlus V Fold (Notebook-like design).
Going by the industry trends in the foldable market, the OnePlus V Fold is expected to be more expensive than the V Flip. A tweet from Mukul Sharma shows that OnePlus has trademarked the names of the foldable phones. According to the rumors, internal testing of at least one of these foldable phones has begun.
The foldable phones are been tested in different regions including Europe. This gives us a hint that maybe OnePlus might launch the foldable phone outside China when it debuts. Aside from the trademark names, there are no leaks with regard to the official specifications but it’s just a matter of time now.
Foldable phones are going mainstream with Google trying to get in on the action with its forthcoming Pixel Fold. In China, the foldable market share has grown from 0.5% to 1.2% between 2021 and 2022. OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor, and Vivo have joined Huawei and Samsung in the foldable market. And now, OnePlus is joining in on the action.
While foldable phones might still be quite expensive, it’s just a matter of time before the competition heats up and the prices start dropping. We have already seen the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 drop from $1799 to $1299 in the US. And the OPPO Find N2 is retailing for $1499 while the Motorola Razr 2022 is selling for less than $850.
