The OPPO Reno 9 Pro is an affordable premium smartphone from OPPO. It is the successor to the OPPO Reno 8 Pro that was released a few months back. This phone features a MediaTek chipset, an impressive 16GB RAM, and a new design. To know more about this phone, let’s break down the key specifications of this device starting with the chipset, CPU, and GPU.

Chipset, CPU, and GPU

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro features the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max chipset. This is a 5G chipset built on TSMC’s 5nm process technology and features an Octa-core processor. The chipset has an Octa-core CPU with a maximum speed clocked at 2.85GHz. The CPU cores are made of four Cortex-A78 (performance cores) and four Cortex-A55 (efficiency cores).

The CPU cores are paired with the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU and the chipset in this phone features the Imagiq 780 ISP, the MediaTek APU 580 AI engine, and 3GPP Release-16 5G modem System. Using the ISP, this phone can encode and decode videos in 4K resolution, play graphics-intensive games, and supports NFC, LPDDR4 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, etc.

Cameras

OPPO Reno 9 Pro features a dual rear camera system and a dual front camera. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary camera that is supported by an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 32MP front camera. The primary camera has no OIS stabilization feature but has a multi-directional PDAF feature.

The 50MP rear camera can record steady videos in 4K resolution while the 32MP front camera can record videos in 1080p resolution. Other camera features include Night mode, portrait mode, LED dual-tone flash, AutoFocus, HDR, panorama, gyro-EIS, HDR10, multi-directional PDAF, etc.

Display, Design, and Durability

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro has a 6.7-inch curved OLED display with FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2412 pixels). The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 950 nits. The phone is made of a Glass front (Asahi Glass) and aluminum frame. The display has Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star2 protection.

The edges of the front screen are curved and it has a center punch hole on the top screen. On the rear, it has a camera module where dual rear camera sensors and LED flash are placed. The volume rocker and power button are on the right side of the frame of the phone. Its microphone, stereo speaker grill, and USB Type-C charging port are on the bottom of the frame.

The dimension of the phone measure about 162.3 x 74.2 x 7.2 mm (6.39 x 2.92 x 0.28 in) and it weighs about 174g (6.14 oz). It has Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) and stereo speakers but there is no space for a microSD card and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

RAM, Storage, and Battery

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro comes in two storage configurations. It has 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB storage versions. There is no microSD card slot for users to expand storage but users can always make use of cloud storage services when storage is full.

OPPO Reno 9 Pro is powered by a 4,500mAh battery and it has support for 67W wired fast charging and 5W reverse wired charging but has no wireless charging. It’ll take about 45 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 100% using the 67W wired charger.

Software and Other Features

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro boots ColorOS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box. This phone is expected to get about three years of software updates. You can download and install apps from the Google Play Store on this phone and even download major updates over OTA.
