Pixel 8 camera sensors: A new report has confirmed that the incoming Google Pixel 8 phones will feature a camera with a larger sensor than those of the iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy S23 Ultra. An according to the report, the Pixel 8 will come with a Samsung camera sensor.
Google has been using Samsung and Sony camera sensors in its Pixel phones for a long time now. And it seems the forth coming Pixel 8 will continue the mix but this time, it’ll feature Samsung biggest camera sensor.
Google Pixel 8 will use Samsung ISOCELL GN2 50MP sensor
According to Android Authority, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will use Samsung ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor as its main rear camera. This sensor is the biggest camera sensor from Samsung yet. It has 1/1.12-inch, a resolution of 50MP and can capture 12.5MP, 50MP. In remosaic mode, the sensor can capture 100MP images but we doubt Google will make use of the 100MP mode in the Pixel 8 phones.
The ISOCELL GN2 sensor also features Dual Pixel Pro autofocus, Staggered HDR, and 4K 120fps or 8K 30fps video recording. The Pixel 8 Pro will also come equipped with Samsung ISOCELL GM5 48MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. This is a 1/2.55-inch sensor with PDAF and up to 8K 30fps video recording.
For the ultra wide cameras, the Pixel 8 will feature the 12MP Sony IMX386, while the Pixel 8 Pro reportedly uses a 64MP Sony IMX787. There is also a ToF sensor and temperature sensor available in the Pixel 8 Pro. The ToF sensor is for 3D object recognition and advanced focus.
Google used the ISOCELL GN1 sensor in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro but the ISOCELL GN2 is a bigger sensor. This means we can expect improved image and video quality in the Pixel 8 phones. No Pixel phones have recorded videos 8K resolution yet but with the introduction of the ISOCELL GN2 sensor in the Pixel 8, this could change as the Pixel 8 phones could be the first Pixel phones to record 8k videos.
Pixel 8 camera sensors is bigger than Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro
The ISOCELL GN2 sensor in the Pixel 8 is bigger than the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 and the 1/1.28-inch 48MP Sony sensor in the Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro respectively. Google Pixel phones are among the best camera phones even without using big camera sensors. So, how good the cameras of the Pixel 8 phones be with the introduction of a bigger camera sensor? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.
The new Google Pixel 8 camera sensors hints that the ABC company is focusing on camera capabilities of its incoming phone. And this could be among the best selling feature of the smartphone when it’s launched.
