Samsung Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: Samsung has finally launched its latest flagship chipset Exynos 2200. But how does it compare to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC? Which is more powerful and better in performance?

In this comparison post, we’ll break every piece of information down, ranging from the CPU, GPU, machine learning, ISP, etc.

Samsung Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: Process Technology

These two chipsets are manufactured on Samsung’s 4nm node and developed on ARM’s latest Armv9 CPU architecture. This early similarity doesn’t showcase the winner of this comparison. So let’s dive deeper into other segments.

CPU

Samsung Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 have the same octa-core (8 CPU cores) and 1+3+4 cluster design. Both mobile chipsets feature ARM’s latest Armv9 CPU architecture.

For emphasis’ sake, these are the powerhouse Arm Cortex-X2, mid-tier Cortex-A710, and power-efficient Cortex-A510. The only difference is the CPU frequency.

Going by the similarities in CPU cores and cluster design, what you get at the end of the day is a similar level of performance. For example, the differences on Geekbench are insignificant.

Single core11081172

In addition, Both chips maintain similarities by featuring quad-channel LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G connectivity.

GPU

Unlike the CPU with many similarities, the GPU is totally different between these two. Samsung partnered with AMD to bring Xclipse 920 GPU based on RDNA-2 architecture. Thus supporting hardware-accelerated ray-tracing and VRS (Variable Rate Shading).

The AMD RDNA2 architecture powers PlayStation 5 and X-box series consoles and only real-life tests can tell its performance on mobile devices.

On the other hand, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 GPU is faster in performance than Snapdragon 888 GPU with 25% less power. More so, the new Adreno GPU has support for Variable Rate Shading but lacks ray-tracing.

Overall both GPUs are exciting and only real-time performance tests will reveal which chipset offers better performance and more power efficiencies. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will launch in both Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variants, so all questions will be answered in due time.

Camera | Machine Learning | Connectivity

These two chipsets can support up to a 200MP single camera sensor. Both can capture 108MP images with zero shutter lag and can record multiple videos simultaneously. Also, both feature Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G connectivity with up to 10Gb/s download speeds.

Samsung Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: Conclusion

All eyes on Exynos 2200’s AMD-based GPU. Whether you like it or not, expectations are high already. So expect both nice and critical reviews. But aside from the GPU, all other segments of the chipset are similar or almost identical to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. After all, both chipsets are built on Samsung’s 4nm EUV process.
