Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung’s 2023 flagship phone and is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra released in early 2022. Some of the highlights of this smartphone are its Stylus support, 200-megapixel main camera, powerful chipset, etc. To know more about this phone, let’s talk about the different parts of this phone.

Chipset, CPU, and GPU

Under the held, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This 5G chipset is built on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and it has an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 740 GPU. The CPU has one 3.36GHz Cortex-X3 performance core, two 2.8GHz Cortex-A715 prime cores, two 2.8GHz Cortex-A710 prime cores, and three 2.0GHz Cortex-A510 efficiency cores.

The chipset in this phone is powerful and features a fast 5G MODEM, fast Wi-Fi, and a powerful ISP and AI engine. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has:

• ISP: Qualcomm Spectra packs 18-bit triple Cognitive ISPs and an Always-Sensing camera with AI.
• AI Engine: AI Engine which includes the Qualcomm Hexagon Processor.
• 5G MODEM: Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF system is equipped with Qualcomm 5G AI Processor, Qualcomm Smart Transmit, and Qualcomm 5G PowerSave

Cameras

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a quad rear camera system and a single front camera. On the rear, it has a 200MP main camera that has PDAF, Laser AF, and OIS features. It also has two telephoto cameras on the rear – a 10-megapixel periscope lens that can do 10x optical zoom and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens that can do 3x optical zoom. And lastly, it has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera to complete the four rear cameras.

On the front, it has a 40-megapixel camera that can record steady videos in 4K resolution. The rear cameras can record videos in 8K resolution and some of the camera features include LED flash, auto-HDR, panorama, Dual video call, Auto-HDR, HDR10+, stereo sound rec., gyro-EIS, etc.

Display, Design, and Durability

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1440 x 3088 pixels display resolution and support for 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. The display has a peak brightness of 1800 nits and is an LTPO panel that can auto-refresh between 1Hz and 120Hz. The front screen is curved and it has a punch hole on top of the screen.

The phone is made of a Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), and aluminum frame. It features an Armor aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance and is certified to be IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins). It also has an inbuilt Stylus with 2.8ms latency (Bluetooth integration, accelerometer, gyro).

The phone has a Nano-SIM and eSIM or Dual SIM (2 Nano-SIMs and eSIM, dual stand-by) and stereo speakers with 32-bit/384kHz audio (Tuned by AKG). The volume and power buttons are on the right side of the frame while the USB Type-C port and microphone are at the bottom frame of the phone. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack port and no microSD card slot.

RAM, Storage, and Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has four RAM and storage models. The base model has 8GB RAM + 256GB of storage while the highest model has 12GB RAM + 1TB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot hence users can expand storage once they exhaust the internal storage.

The battery inside the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W (PD3.0) wired fast charging, 15W (Qi/PMA) wireless fast charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Using the 45W wired charger, you can charge the phone from 0 to 100% in about 50 minutes.

Software and Other Features

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boots OneUI 5 based on Android 13 out of the box. The phone will get about five years of major software updates and security patches.
