Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Display, Design, and Durability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a very good display. It has a 6.7-inches Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X. This display has support for a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. The display is very smooth and it responds very fast when you’re using the screen. The display is also very bright even when you’re outside.
When it comes to design, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 looks really beautiful. It has a simple design that looks elegant and premium at the same time. The front screen looks really good because of its slim bezels and simple punch hole. And the rear looks very neat with its dual camera sensor and a 1.9-inches display that can be used to receive notifications and view messages.
Samsung made sure that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is not only beautiful but also very durable. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is made of Plastic front (opened), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus+), and an aluminum frame. It is also IPX8 water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins) and has an Armour aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance.
When the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is folded or unfolded, the device looks and feels premium. The phone can survive a few falls from table height when it’s folded but the only threat to the device is dust. The inner screen is soft and particles of sand and dust can cause serious damage to the inner screen. So, when the phone is not in use, it’s best you fold it.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Chipset and Performance
The chipset inside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. This 5G chipset has the Cortex-X2 power core, Cortex-A710 efficiency cores, and Adreno 730 GPU, and is built on TSMC’s 4nm process technology.
The chipset is not only fast but is also very powerful. This explains why the performance of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is very good. The phone can play graphics-intensive games with issues and it does not throttle or lag. Another impressive thing about the performance of the Z Flip 4 is heat management. The phone does not get excessively hot and the performance does not drop frame rates quickly.
The level of efficiency of the chipset is also why the battery of the phone can last for a longer time (more on this in the battery segment below). You can play games using the highest graphics settings without issues and the phone sometimes gets warm but not HOT.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Camera
This Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review brings us to the camera of the phone. Here we’ll talk about the photography and videography experiences of the camera sensors.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has two rear cameras and one single front camera. It has a 12MP primary camera that has Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS features. This main camera is supported by a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP front-facing camera. Both the primary camera and front camera can record steady videos in 4K resolution
The quality of photos and videos from the cameras are not the very best but still impressive. There is no dedicated telephoto lens, no dedicated macro lens, and no dedicated depth sensor. However, the portrait mode is spot on and the night photos are pretty good too. There might not be lots of camera options (i.e more sensors) but the photo and video quality from the three camera sensors of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is really good.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: RAM, Storage, and Software
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes in 8GB or 12GB RAM options. These RAM options are paired with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The 128GB storage is cheaper but it’s better if you buy the 256GB of storage version. This is because the Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with preinstalled apps and it has no room for storage expansion via a microSD card slot. So, a 128GB storage will fill up pretty quickly and this makes the 256GB storage a better option.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 boots OneUI 4.1.1 based on Android 12 out of the box. This phone will be getting four years of major software updates and five years of monthly security patches. You can download apps and games from the Google Play Store. The more interesting thing about the software is the user experience.
The software of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is well optimized. When the phone is folded at a 90-degree angle, the screen will be divided into two. You can use the upper part to open one app and the bottom part for another app. For example, when you open the camera app, and you open the phone at a 90-degree angle, the camera controls will automatically be on the bottom screen while the camera view will be on the top screen.
This feature also works well with other applications. And one of the best scenarios where this is very useful is when making video calls through apps like ZOOM. During an online meeting, you can fold the phone at a 90-degree angle and the ZOOM app will be on the top part showing your camera view while other controls will be on the bottom screen. Samsung has worked with other app makers to make sure these apps are well optimized to use both halves of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Battery and Charging
Powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a 3,700mAh battery with support for 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. You can charge the battery from 0 to 100% in about 65 minutes. But the more impressive about the battery is its usage.
The 3,700mAh battery of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 can last you for more than 9 hours. That is 9 hours under intensive and continuous use. But, if you are a light user, the battery can last you for more than 24 hours. This is because the chipset has very good efficiency cores and hence helps prolong the battery use for a long time.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Conclusion
This Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review has shown that the device is a pretty good foldable device. It has very good performance, long battery life, nice display, very good software experience, decent cameras, and is durable. But, it has no microSD card slot, no 3.5mm headphone jack port, and dust can damage the inner screen.
Truth is, the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is not cheap. But hey, foldable smartphones are not cheap and in fact, the Z Flip 4 is one of the cheapest foldable phones of 2022.
So, is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 for you? Well, if you like phones that fold into half and you need a phone that is very convenient and powerful that you can carry along, then the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is for you. However, if you need a foldable phone that expands and turns into a tablet, then skip this and check out the Galaxy Z Flip 4 or Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.
