Having tested the smartphones that are powered by either of these chipsets, we can say the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 performance is a leap ahead. Although the differences are minimal. The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 vs Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 shares more similarities than differences.
Following their peak scores on the Geekbench, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 beats the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 by barely 4%. The former had 4,399 multi-core points, while the latter scored 4,279 points in multi-core.
When it comes to their CPU configuration, both SoCs feature octa-core processors with 1+3+4 architecture. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset has 1 x Cortex-A710 @2.91 GHz.., 3 x Cortex-A710 @2.49 GHz.., and 4 x Cortex-A510 @1.8 GHz. Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 is faster and better in performance than the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. However, the differences are insignificant. Especially when you consider how cheap the SD 7+ Gen 2 phones are priced. If you can afford the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phones then go for it. Otherwise, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 phones are capable to perform almost similar tasks + they are cheaper.
