Display & Design

Tecno Phantom X is the best design phone yet from Tecno mobile. The Phantom X screen is curved and it has an AMOLED display. While the Tecno Camon 17 Pro has a flat screen with IPS LCD panel. So when it comes to sharpness, brightness and accuracy in colors, the Tecno Phantom X is better.

However what both smartphones have similar is the 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. But overall, the Phantom X with an AMOLED display wins this category.

Camera

When it comes to camera, the Phantom X is better. It has triple rear cameras and dual selfie cameras. The rear cameras are all functional and very useful. 50MP main camera, 13MP telephoto lens and 8MP ultrawide lens. While the dual selfie cameras are 48MP + 8MP.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro on the other hand, has 64MP quad rear cameras and a single 48MP upfront for selfie. The night pictures of the Phantom X is better and it uses laser autofocus which is more sophisticated and accurate for night pictures.

However, that doesn’t mean the Camon 17 Pro’s camera is bad. It is top notch but just that the Phantom X 50MP primary camera has a lot of juice that can’t be ignored. Both smartphones can record video in 4K resolution.

Performance | Chipset | RAM | 5G

When it comes to performance, both smartphones are equal. Tecno Camon 17 Pro vs Tecno Phantom X are both powered by Mediatek helio G95 Chipset. And paired with 8GB of RAM + 256GB of storage.

And for the record, neither of them is 5G enabled. So you’ll have to make do with the 4G network available.

Software

Both smartphones run Android 11 out of the box on HiOS 7.6 skin software from Tecno. However, the Phantom X comes with Tecno’s own voice assistant known as “Ella”. Which is a good bonus for those purchasing the Phantom X.

Battery

Battery wise, the Tecno Camon 17 Pro has 5,000 mAh capacity with 25W fast charge. While the Tecno Phantom X has 4,700 mAh battery capacity with 33W fast charge.

From my usage so far, the Camon 17 Pro battery lasts longer.

Price

The Tecno Camon 17 Pro is more affordable. It will cost $310 to purchase. While the Tecno Phantom X Price is above $450. Phantom X is the most expensive phone from Tecno yet.

Conclusion

Tecno Phantom X is better than the Tecno Camon 17 Pro. Even though both devices have similar performance, however, when it comes to camera quality, design, display and software, the Phantom X is miles ahead.

If I’m to score both smartphones by percentage, the Phantom X will get (56%) while the Camon 17 Pro gets (44%).
