Tecno Camon 19 Pro Review: Tecno has launched its camera phone of 2022 and surely, it’s one of the best budget camera phones of the year. The Tecno Camon 19 Pro comes with a 64MP primary camera with OIS and Laser AF features. It also uses a new RGBW sensor which improves the quality of photos and videos from the camera of this phone. But, who should buy this phone?
Before you pull out $330 (₦199,000) to buy this phone, you should carefully go through this Tecno Camon 19 Pro Review. This review will help you to know if this phone is actually a good buy for you or not. Even though the phone is a camera phone, there are other features and things you also need in a smartphone. Tecno Camon 19 Pro Review
Display, Design, and Build
The display size of the Tecno Camon 19 Pro is 6.8 inches. According to Tecno, the Camon 19 Pro uses a Gamut display panel but that’s incorrect. The actual display panel of the Camon 19 Pro is IPS LCD with high color Gamut (the display is IPS LCD). We don’t know why Tecno decides to hide that but anyways, the IPS LCD display comes with 120Hz refresh rate support and has a peak brightness of 500 nits.
As per the design, the Camon 19 Pro comes with two rings on the rear that houses three camera sensors. On the front, it has a simple punch-hole that houses the selfie camera. The phone also has very slim bezels, flat screen, and sharp edges, and it’s about 9mm thick.
The build materials used in this phone are front glass, plastic frame, and plastic back. The phone feels comfortable to hold and it fits well in my hands. It has the volume rock and power button (also the fingerprint scanner) on the right side of the frame. The speaker, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack are located on the bottom frame.
Under direct sunlight, it’s a little difficult to see the screen but its refresh rate is smooth and fast. The design of the Camon 19 Pro also looks very simple and beautiful.

Chipset and Performance
The chipset inside the Tecno Camon 19 Pro is the MediaTek Helio G96 (the Camon 91 Pro 5G comes with MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset). This chipset is built on a 12nm process node technology (the Camon 19 Pro 5G chip is built on 6nm) and has a maximum CPU frequency of 2.05GHz. For gaming and graphic work, it uses the Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. And it has an estimated maximum download speed of 1.5Gbps.
When it comes to performance, this chipset is not the best but it’s pretty good. The chipset won’t allow you to play graphic-intensive games in very high settings. To be able to play such games as PUBG and Call of Duty, the chipset will reduce the graphics settings and drop the frame rates.
Using this phone extensively shows that the Tecno Camon 19 Pro tends to drop performance after a while. This is because the phone gets heated up too soon and this affects the consistency of the performance. We ran some tests and below are the test results:

The performance of the Tecno Camon 19 Pro 5G is better than that of the Infinix Note 12 VIP (but the Camon 19 Pro has the same performance as the Note 12 VIP from Infinix). But, the likes of Tecno Pova 5G and Infinix Zero 5G still have better performance and if you need a gaming smartphone from Tecno, then look the way of the Pova 5G.

Photography and Videography
Tecno Camon phones are camera smartphones and the Camon 19 Pro lives up to that tradition. The Camon 19 Pro comes with a 64MP primary camera with RGBW sensor, OIS, and Laser AF, a 2 Bokeh lens, a 50MP portrait lens, and a 32MP front camera. The Camon 19 Pro 5G comes with the same 64MP primary camera but does not have a 50Mp portrait lens and it has a 16MP selfie camera (not 32MP).
It also has a Quad flash but you might not need it when taking night photos because the phone has Night Mode and Super Night Mode features for its cameras. The cameras of the Camon 19 Pro can take sharp photos during the day and night time.

When it comes to videography, the Camon 19 Pro can shoot steady videos in 2K resolution (not 4K). It has an OIS feature and a gyro-EIS feature that helps to stabilize photos and video shots. Even at night, you can also shoot nice videos and for its price, the photo and video qualities of the Camon 19 Pro are really good.
As a camera smartphone, there are lots of camera features available. You can choose from tons of preinstalled backgrounds, allow some AI work when taking shots, and you can use Night Mode and Super Night Mode. The Tecno Camon 19 Pro is no doubt one of the best budget camera phones of the year.

Tecno Camon 19 Pro comes with 8GB RAM and it also has support for memory fusion (virtual memory extension). It comes with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage and also has support for storage expansion via a MicroSD card slot.
As per software, the Tecno Camon 19 Pro boots HIOS 8.6 based on Android 12 out of the box. Tecno promises one year of major software updates and two years of monthly security patches for this phone. So, who should buy the Tecno Camon 19 Pro, and who should avoid buying this phone? If you value cameras (photography and videography) more than performance, then the Tecno Camon 19 Pro is for you. But, if you value performance over cameras (that is you, love, playing games), then you might want to look the way of other phones with better performance.
There are so many good things about the Tecno Camon 19 Pro but there is also some room for improvement. The Camon 19 Pro features a fast refresh rate, good battery life, really good cameras, a beautiful design, and is very comfortable to hold. But, it’s relatively expensive, has an average chipset, and is not ideal for gaming.
