AdSense Additional Tax Information: If you are a YouTube Creator or you have an active AdSense Account with Google, you must have come across the new Tax Information Notification.
It reads – “Important: Check if additional tax information is required from you. All YouTube creators and partners are required to submit tax information to ensure any applicable taxes on your payments are accurate”.
And just below the notification are three links you can click. The first is Manage Tax Info – use this link if you want to add your tax information to your account. Second is a Learn More – use this link to know more about the notification and third is the Dismiss – use this to remove the notification.
Of all three links, the Manage Tax Info is the most important one. This is because, adding the wrong tax information to your Google AdSense Account or ignoring it might come at a cost. You should also note that depending on your country, your tax information will differ from those of others.
For example, the Tax information you’ll add as a YouTube creator from India is different from the ones a creator from Nigeria will add. Same goes for creators living in United States and those in the United Kingdom. If you are confuse as to how to add the right tax information to your AdSense Account, we got you covered.
First, let’s explain what this means and why it’s important that YouTube creators add tax information to their AdSense account (whether you live in the US or not).
What does the Additional Tax Information for YouTube Creators Means?
The additional tax information for YouTube Creators means that depending on your location, Google might start collecting Tax Related information from you. So, for every earning you receive from Google, they might have deducted tax before sending your earnings.
Google is a USA based company and they have to comply with laws from the United States which includes Tax Laws. Primarily, this additional tax information is not to be submitted by every publishers.
But, Google has said in its notification that they might have to deduct as high as 30% of your earnings if you don’t add your tax information.
This 30% will be deducted from views and earnings they see as generated from the United States.
Simply put, as a YouTube creator, if you are getting views and making money from the United States, 30% of the earnings might be deducted if you add or don’t add this information. This might sounds unfair, we understand.
But here is the deal, without adding your tax information as a creator, you are leaving Google with no choice but to assume things. And this might not be in your favor as a creator.
