Xiaomi and Motorola to be first OEMs to use Snapdragon 898 chip

Qualcomm is set to release its new flagship chip ‘Snapdragon 898’ in its annual December Tech Summit. And Xiaomi and Motorola is tipped to be the first OEMs to power their smartphones with this new chip.

According to the reliable tipster DCS, Motorola has plans to launch a smartphone powered by this chip by the end of 2021. While Xiaomi is already set to launch its Xiaomi 12 using the new Qualcomm chip.

DCS Weibo Post

A now deleted post that appeared on Weibo also detailed the key specs of the new Qualcomm chip including its model number, CPU cores, and some GPU details.

IceUniverse, another trusted tipster also shared the Geekbench scores of the Snapdragon 898 chip. It appears to be 15% better compared to the Snapdragon 888 and about 5% better than the Snapdragon 888+ chip.

For the past three years, Xiaomi has been the first OEM to announce its interest in using newly released Qualcomm flagship chip in its smartphones.

Samsung is also an early adopter of this chip. But with Samsung possibly delaying the release of the Galaxy S22 series till February next year, Motorola might beat them to be among the first to use the new Qualcomm chip.
