Since May, the new report shows that Xiaomi’s sales grew 26% by June. Time and again, the CEO of Xiaomi has said the goal of the company is to become the number phone brand in the world.
Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, said,
“Ever since the decline of Huawei commenced, Xiaomi has been making consistent and aggressive efforts to fill the gap created by this decline. The OEM has been expanding in Huawei’s and HONOR’s legacy markets like China, Europe, Middle East and Africa. In June, Xiaomi was further helped by China, Europe and India’s recovery and Samsung’s decline due to supply constraints.”

Well, Samsung has been having supply chain issues no thanks to the global chip shortage. Even the well-loved Galaxy A series faced chip shortage issues which resulted to fewer supplies. As at the time of writing this article, the Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72 5G is out of stock globally. Even though it’s not been up to a year since these devices was released.
Also, Samsung’s smartphone production has also taken a hit due to the fresh COVID-19 wave in Vietnam.
These are the factors that have helped Xiaomi climb to the number one spot. Xiaomi did not have supply chain issues for its beloved Redmi Note series, top-end flagship phones including the POCO line-ups.

Also, with aggressive pricing, Xiaomi has been able to take over Huawei and Honor’s customer fan base. The ban on Huawei left a vacuum and Xiaomi was quick to fill that space.
How long will Xiaomi stay at the top? Well with the launch of the Galaxy A52s, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung might reclaim the number one spot. But Xiaomi can still retain the top spot if their strong sales continues throughout 2021.
Some real competition is really going in the smartphone industry. Let’s see who will wear the crown of the world’s biggest smartphone brand by the end of 2021.
