Price and Availability

These two CPUs were announced on August 29th, 2022. The Ryzen 9 7950X is priced at $699, while the Ryzen 9 7900X is priced at $549. That’s about a $150 price difference between these two processors.

In terms of their availability, AMD during the announcement on Aug. 29th, says all new Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 series will start selling from September 27th, 2022. You can use the box at the bottom of this post to purchase either of these CPUs by then.

Socket Compatibility

You can’t use your old AM4 socket for any of the Ryzen 7000 series. It won’t be compatible. Thus, anyone who is buying either the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or Ryzen 9 7900X will spend more money. AMD Ryzen 9 7950X is superior to the Ryzen 9 7900X in many ways. The Ryzen 9 7950X has higher cores and threads count than the Ryzen 7900X- which translates to a much better multi-threaded performance in favor of the Ryzen 9 7950X.

To be specific, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X has 16-cores and 32-Threads (4.5/5.7 GHz- base and boost clock frequency). In comparison, its younger sibling Ryzen 9 7900X possesses 12-cores and 24-Threads (4.7/5.6 GHz).

Comparing their performance ended in the favor of the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. On Geekbench, the Ryzen 9 7950X scored 2275 points in a single-core test, while the 7900X had 2250 points in a single-core test. The difference between these two is more significant on the multi-core test. Although the performance tests ended in favor of the Ryzen 9 7959X, we must confess the margin wasn’t extraordinary.
