Despite the pandemic and chip shortage that rocked the tech industry, Apple still managed to be the number one phone seller in the US in 2021. According to a new report released by Counterpoint Research, Apple sold more phones than all Android phone makers in every quarter of 2021.
Data collected by Counterpoint Research shows that the sales numbers of Apple were the best in 2021. The data was based on the US smartphone market for last year.

From the data collected, iPhone shares took about 55% of the entire market in the first quarter of 2021. Samsung occupied the second spot with a 27% market share during the same quarter.
- Shipments of phones increased 10% YoY and 30% QoQ in the fourth quarter of 2021 as Apple launched the iPhone 13, filling channels with its latest premium devices for the holiday season.
- When it comes to premium smartphones sales, Apple grew 67% QoQ due to the new launch, Samsung shares dropped -11% QoQ as it could not restock the Galaxy S21 series fast enough and this also resulted in a drop in market share, down to 22%.
- Lenovo (Motorola) also saw a 12% market share increase with the help of phones such as the Moto G Pure.

The space left by LG in the smartphone market was filled by other companies and this also increase the sales number of many companies. Motorola and OnePlus were the top companies to take advantage of LGs exit.
Apple continues to see success in sales thanks to the sales of the iPhone 13 boasts of better sales numbers than its predecessor. Samsung might take the market shares for the first quarter of 2022 going by the popular demand for its recently released Galaxy S22 series.
