Apple Watch Series 7’s price will drop because of the arrival of its successor. At launch, the 41mm version was priced at $399, while the 45mm version is priced at $429 (look out for discounts on the Watch Series 7). In comparison, the Apple Watch Series 8 is priced at $399 for the 41mm, and the 45mm version is priced at $429 (GPS + Cellular is priced at $499).

The prices may look similar, however, with the arrival of the Watch Series 8, the price of the Watch Series 7 will drop. So technically, the predecessor is more affordable.

Release Date and Availability

Apple released the Watch Series 7 in October 2021 and since then the Smartwatch has been on sale. However, its successor- Apple Watch Series 8 was announced on September 7 2022 and first sales commenced on September 16, 2022.

Design, Display, and Durability

As for the display sizes and quality, there are hardly any noticeable differences here. Apple Watch Series 7 has a 1.69-inch (41mm version) or 1.9-inch (45mm version) Retina OLED touchscreen with Always-On Display. In comparison, Apple Watch Series 8 maintains a similar 1.69-inch (41mm version) or 1.9-inch (45mm version) Retina OLED touchscreen with Always-On Display.

Both smartwatches are durable and well-protected. Although the screen protector could have gotten tougher instead of the Ion-X strengthened glass, a Sapphire crystal glass would have been better and more durable. Although both smartwatches are waterproof.

Also, they are available in different colors. The Apple Watch Series 7 comes in multiple color options: Starlight, Midnight, Blue, Green, and Red. While the Watch Series 8 comes in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Red.

Performance

The Apple Watch Series 8 has a better performance than the Watch Series 7. The Watch Series 8 is powered by the latest Apple S8 chip, which is more power efficient than the S7 Chip in the Apple Watch Series 7. Both smartwatches have 1GB RAM and 32GB storage.

Overall, the Apple Watch Series 8 is faster and saves more battery life than the Apple Watch Series 7. The new wearable chip “Apple S8” focuses more on battery life management and that is a plus for the new Watch Series 8.

Both smartwatches have bundles of health and fitness features. However, the Apple Watch Series 8 is a leap ahead with a healthy dose of style. One such feature is “crash detection”. It detects if you’ve been in a severe car crash, automatically connects you to emergency services, and notifies your emergency contacts too.

Apple Watch Series 8 is multi-functional and more enhanced. It brings High and low heart-rate notifications, Fall Detection, Crash Detection, Irregular rhythm notifications, Temperature sensing, Cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates, Blood Oxygen apps, and its ECG certification.

Apple Watch Series 7 is multi-functional as well. It brings a blood oxygen sensor, Accelerometer, gyro, heart rate, barometer, always-on altimeter, compass, SpO2, VO2max, ECG certified (region dependent SW application; HW available on all models).
