MediaTek Dimensity 1080: The battle to retain dominance in the mid-range phone segment is one MediaTek takes very seriously. And so far, the Taiwanese company has done wonderfully well by doubling its chipset shipment in recent years thanks to its best-selling mid-range chipsets. The company has added a new chipset to its mid-range segment and this one comes with a major improvement.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset is a new mid-range chipset from MediaTek and is the successor to the Dimensity 920 chipset released by the company last year. For those who don’t know, the Dimensity 920 chipset was used in various smartphones like the Chinese edition of the Redmi Note 11 Pro/Pro+, vivo V23 5G, the Infinix Zero Ultra 5G, etc.

So, what are the new features and improvements that the new Dimensity 1080 chipset is bringing to smartphones? Well, let’s find out.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset is built on TSMC’s 6nm process technology. It’s a 5G chipset that supports various 5G bands (dual 5G with dual standby). It features two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores with a clock speed of 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 2.00GHz. The CPU cores of the chipset are paired with the ARM Mali-G68 MC4 GPU.

For its RAM and Storage technology, the chipset has support for LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. But the more interesting feature and major improvement of this chipset come in the camera and ISP.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 can support up to 200MP sensors without shutter lag. It has a new ISP that can effortlessly process photos taken from a 200MP sensor without users experiencing shutter lags. It also supports HDR video recording in 4K resolution and a quad-camera system.

In the areas of display, the Dimensity 1080 chipset supports 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ display (1080p screens). As per connectivity, the chipset supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and dual 5G with dual standby.

According to MediaTek, the first smartphones featuring the Dimensity 1080 chipset will debut in Q4 2022. The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 has improved performance, improved efficiency, and an improved ISP over its predecessor. Xiaomi might use this chipset in its forthcoming Redmi Note 12 series and Honor is also expected to launch mid-range phones that will be powered by the Dimensity 1080 chipset soon.

  1. Such a solid chipset by mediatek. They have done a great job and I think this D810 will provide decent performance, execution, and gaming as well.
