Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT: AMD’s Flagship GPUs, go Head-to-head

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT: AMD has officially announced the RDNA3 architecture GPUs- Radeon 7900 series. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards will battle the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 GPUs respectively.

But before we go ahead to compare the Radeon RX 7900 Series to Nvidia RTX 4000 Series, let’s start by telling the differences between the two latest GPUs from AMD- Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT: Price | Availability

First, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is more expensive with a starting price of $999. While the 7900 XT has a starting price of $899. Both GPUs will add price by the time they get to the market or start selling on December 13th. But for now, the prices above are the MSRP.

Aside from the price segregation, other specs are different too. And it’s a way to keep in mind that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is the proper flagship card here, while the RX 7900 XT is a “top midrange” or whatsoever you will call the next to the flagship category. But hope you get the point. That the RX 7900 XTX is superior.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT: Specs | Performance

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX comes with full juice- the power and the monster performance. While that of the 7900 XT is slightly reduced. To be specific, the RX 7900 XTX has a clock speed of 2.3 GHz which is higher than the XT model with 2.0 GHz, 96 Compute Units as opposed to the 84 of the XT model. And even the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 24GB GDDR6 Memory as opposed to the 20GB of the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX price

AMD did not directly compare the performance of both GPUs, instead, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX model was compared to the 6950 XT. And according to AMD, in a six games performance at 4K resolution, the latest 7900 XTX was about 1.5 to 1.7x better than the 6950 XT. And that was how far AMD went without saying how much faster it is than the XT model.

We do know that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has superior performance than the RX 7900 XT model, just that no one knows the specific percentage yet. We could speculate between 1.2 to 1.4x faster but that’s still speculation. However, one unique feature of these two GPUs is the “RDNA3 architecture”. Let’s take some time to explain the masterpiece.

RDNA 3 Architecture

Where does the Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT stand when it comes to the RDNA3 architecture? These two GPUs are the first in the world to have a chiplet-based design. Chiplet-based design? What does that even mean?

Well, it simply means the GPU die has dual components, the Graphics Compute Die (GCD) and the Memory Cache Die (MCD). The GCD is built on a new 5nm manufacturing process while the MCD uses the older 6nm process. You can read more about the RDNA3 architecture here.

What’s the benefit of the RDNA 3 Architecture? Simply put, it improves the performance of the Radeon RX 7900 GPUs. The AMD RDNA 3 architecture delivers up to 54% more performance per watt than the previous-generation AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Thus, we expect to see the Radeon RX 7900 XTX either surpass or be at par with the Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs Radeon RX 7900 XT: Conclusion

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is faster than the 7900 XT. The preliminary data supported that. With the XTX model, you get up to 15% more cores, a higher clock speed, etc. And all of that is for a $100 price increase. In our next comparison, we know you’d like to see how the GPU compared to the Nvidia RTX 4000 Series.
