We have been hearing news of Google, Xiaomi and OPPO wanting to jump in on the foldable smartphone market. Last year, rumor has it that the above phone manufacturers will launch foldable phones in the second half of 2021. Well, a new report from TheElec is pointing us in that direction.
TheElec claims that Google, Xiaomi and OPPO are planing to launch foldable smartphones that folds inward (like the Galaxy Z Fold 2). They also said that all three companies will buy it’s OLED panels from Samsung.

According to the report by TheElec, the foldable phone from Google will have a 7.6 inch OLED panel. This new foldable Pixel is supposedly codenamed “passport” and some patents documents recently discovered supports the claim that Google might be going for a foldable phone.
The report also includes that OPPO is set to release a clamshell phone with a display size of about 7.7 inch when it’s unfolded. Its outer display is said to be between 1.5 to 2 inches. It seems OPPO is choosing Samsung to provide its OLED panel instead of BOE or Visionox.

Xiaomi is known for teasing lots of stuffs and they previously teased an out-folding smartphone (just like those of the original Huawei Mate X). But, it seems they are changing that concept. Per the report, the new Xiaomi foldable handset will have an 8.03 inch display and a 6.38 inches cover screen. It appears both Samsung a d CSOT are working in its OLED panel.
Foldable devices that folds outside are easier to manufacture but also very prone to damage. Maybe this is one of the main reason why the new Huawei Mate X2 is coming with inward fold unlike the original Mate X.

Samsung is still the company spearheading the foldable market with two successful folder form factors. The company’s next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, is highly likely to support the S Pen stylus.
