Honor Magic 5 Pro vs Xiaomi 13 Pro: Performance

Performance is one area where both smartphones are very similar. Both smartphones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G chipset and have the same CPU cores, GPU, AI engine, 5G MODEM, WiFi, Bluetooth version, etc.

But, both phones also have their own in-house chipset to assist the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Honor Magic 5 Pro also has two chipsets (one for the display and a dedicated ISP) to assist the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Xiaomi also built its own custom chip for the Xiaomi 13 Pro to assist the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

So, when it comes to graphics rendering or playing graphics-intensive games, you can hardly te the difference in performance. Both the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Honor Magic 5 Pro have consistent performance (on the same level) and even the frame rate per second on games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Genshin Impact are very similar on both phones. Regardless of which of these phones you buy, you’ll get superb performance.

Design, Display, and Durability

Both smartphones have very different designs and depending on your choice you might prefer one to the other. The screen of both smartphones is curved but the Xiaomi 13 Pro has a single punch hole on its screen which looks neater than the dual punch hole on the top left corner of the Honor Magic 5 Pro.

The rear design of both phones is also different. Both phones have the same LTOP AMOLED panel that can auto refresh at 120Hz and supports HDR10+. The screen of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is a little brighter than that of the Honor Magic 5 Pro. You’ll notice this difference if you’re using both phones outside (under direct sunlight).

The durability features of both smartphones are also very similar. Both phones are certified to be IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min) and are made of Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back or eco-leather back, and aluminum frame. Both smartphones also survived our bend test but it’s important to note that a fall from table height can scratch the back panel and crack the front screen.

Xiaomi 13 Pro has a Better Main Camera

On the rear, the Honor Magic 5 Pro features a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera while the Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 50.3MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The telephoto and ultra-wide cameras on both phones are the same, but the Xiaomi 13 Pro has a better main camera.

The 50.3MP main camera of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is Sony’s IMX989 1-inch type sensor which takes sharper and clearer photos and videos than the 50MP main camera of the Magic 5 Pro. But, the story is different when it comes to the front cameras. The 32MP front camera of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is not as good as the 12MP front camera of the Honor Magic 5 Pro.

You can record videos in 4K with the 12MP front camera of the Magic 5 Pro but you can only record 1080p videos with the 32MP front camera of the Xiaomi 13 Pro. Honor Magic 5 Pro also has better FaceID with its TOF 3D depth and biometrics scanner lens. Personally, I prefer the Xiaomi 13 Pro as a better camera smartphone. This is because it offers an overall better camera experience.

Verdict: Honor Magic 5 Pro vs Xiaomi 13 Pro

The Honor Magic 5 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Pro are similar in many ways but the Honor Magic 5 Pro is better in some ways. The Honor Magic 5 Pro has a bigger screen, bigger battery, accurate FaceID, and more custom chips that improve its performance.

The $100 off the price of the Xiaomi 13 Pro makes it a good bargain but I’ll still recommend the Honor Magic 5 Pro ahead of the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The Magic 5 Pro gives users some extra features that are not available in the Xiaomi 13 Pro which is why I feel it’s better than the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
