The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G chipset is the most powerful from the Taiwanese tech company yet. At the ongoing 2021 MediaTek’s summit conference that’s holding in Los Angeles – California, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G specifications were fully revealed and it’s nothing short of wow.

The chipset is “World’s first” in so many things. It’s the world’s first TSMC chip built on the 4nm process – which translates to better performance while improving power efficiency. World’s first Bluetooth 5.3 on smartphone chip. World’s first smartphone chip to support 320MP camera. World’s first smartphone chip to use a Cortex-X2 core clocked at up to 3.05Ghz and so many more “World first”.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G Chipset: CPU

For CPU, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G chipset has 1+3+4 architecture. The single Cortex-X2 “ultra core” is clocked at 3.05GHz, while the 3X “super cores” Cortex-A710 is clocked at up to 2.85Ghz, and 4X “efficiency core” Cortex A510 is clocked at 1.8Ghz.

More so, MediaTek Dimensity 9000 supports LPDDR5x RAM speeds of up to 7500Mbps in smartphones. Also it has 14MB of cache, which according to the Taiwan-based chip maker will improve performance by 7% and bandwidth consumption by 25% versus just 8MB of cache.

When put to test on Geekbench, MediaTek says it outperforms the Snapdragon 888 chipset while being at par with the Apple A15 bionic SoC. But we’ll wait to have our own test in the studio to confirm if it’s entirely true.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G chipset: GPU

The SoC got a boost in graphics. There’s a new Mali-G710 GPU with 10-cores which is the world’s first, alongside a new raytracing SDK for developers to bring new visual improvements.

Also it is the world’s first smartphone chip with Bluetooth 5.3. The connectivity of the Dimensity 9000 chip is further improved as it supports Wi-Fi 6E 2×2, Bluetooth Audio LE-ready with “Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio”, and it supports a new Beidou III-B1C GNSS standard.

ISP

There’s an improved ISP that can now record 4K HDR video from three cameras concurrently. MediaTek says it’s new ISP (Image Signal Processor) can process a total of 270 frames per second to output 18-bit 4K HDR video.

The ISP also supports camera sensors of up to 320MP. It can also playback 8k videos and the display support WQHD+ 144Hz refresh rate or FHD+ 180Hz refresh rate.

5G & AI

Sadly the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC doesn’t support mmWave, this modem only supports sub-6Ghz 5G with max download speeds of up to 7Gbps with 3CC Carrier Aggregation (300Mhz).

AI and ML is one key area where Google Tensor chip is so advanced, however MediaTek is making bold claims that the Dimensity 9000 outperforms the Google Tensor by 16% in AI performance. Even though it’s hard to swallow, but only time will tell when the first smartphones running the Dimensity 9000 arrives in late Q1 2022.
