Realme GT Neo 5 could be the fastest-charging phone yet

Smartphone companies are bringing faster charging to their smartphones. We’ve seen phones supporting 100W, 120W, 150W, 180W, and 210W. Now it seems Realme is set to bring a new charging speed in the Realme GT Neo 5.

According to a new report from China, the incoming Realme GT Neo 5 could support 240W wired fast charging. This means the phone will take the fast charging crown from Redmi Note 12 Discovery (210W).

The report also confirmed that the Realme GT Neo 5 will come in two versions. The version that will support the 240W wired fast charging will have a 4,600mAh battery. There will also be another version that will have a 5,000mAh battery that will support 150W wired fast charging.

OnePlus Ace Review

The 240W wired fast charging was first demonstrated by OPPO back in February. From the demo, the 240W charger was able to charge a 4,500mAh battery from 0 to 100% in about 10 minutes. This means the 4,600mAh battery of the Realme GT Neo 5 could be fully charged within 9 minutes.

Truth be told, even if the battery of the incoming Realme phone will be fully charged in 10 minutes, that’s still a great feat. I mean, getting your phone fully charged in 10 minutes is incredible. Also, note that premium phones from Samsung and Apple still take over an hour to be fully charged.

As for durability, the 150W charging system from OPPO can last 1,600 charge cycles before the battery drops to 80% of its initial capacity. So, we expect the 240W system to also have a similar charge cycle before the battery drops since the technology is from OPPO. The likes of OPPO and OnePlus might also use this charging tech in their future smartphones.

We’re getting these huge jumps in wired fast charging because there is no limit to the technology yet. Unlike the wireless charging system which the Chinese government limited to just 50W wireless charging.

But tell us, what do you think of this 240W wired fast charging? How would you like a phone that can charge from 0 to 100% in about 9 minutes? Please tell us in the comment section below.
