Phantom V Fold has Incredible Performance

Judging by the fact that the retail price of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is about $500 more expensive than the Phantom V Fold, you might think that it must have a better performance. Well, that is not the case. In fact, while I was using both devices, I noticed that the performance of the Phantom V Fold is very close to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and some cases even better.

From rendering high graphics and playing graphics-intensive games, the Phantom V Fold is just as good as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset of the Phantom V Fold has fast CPU cores and a powerful GPU that are just as good as the ones in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The performance of the Phantom V Fold is so good that you won’t notice that huge $500 difference in price. Playing games like Genshin impact, PUBG Mobile, etc, using the highest graphics on both phones is smooth.

Phantom V Fold is Bigger

The size of the Tecno Phantom V Fold is bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. Now, this is a problem for users who like to carry their phones in small purses or handbags because the Phantom V Fold is also heavier than the Z Fold 4. However, the Phantom V Fold also offers a bigger display for better media consumption.

One interesting feature of the display of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the under-display camera of the inner screen. Once opened, you don’t see the 4MP front camera which is pretty good. As for the crease, the crease is noticeable on both smartphones. The displays of both phones support a 120Hz refresh rate and the screen brightness is relatively the same. But as stated above, if you don’t mind the size and weight, the Phantom V Fold gives you a bigger screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Has better Cameras

Although the camera system of the Phantom V Fol is good, that of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is better. Photos and videos from the cameras of both smartphones are good but you can do and have more camera features on the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The camera setup of the Phantom V Fold is a 50MP Main camera, 50MP telephoto camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, 16MP front camera (inner display), and 32MP front camera (outer display). In comparison, the camera setup of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a 50MP Main camera, 10MP telephoto camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, 4MP front camera (inner display), and 10MP front camera (outer display).

The Phantom V Fold can only record videos in 4K resolution and its HDR feature is not that good. But the Galaxy Z Fold 4 can record videos in 8K resolution and supports HDR10+ video recording. Videos and photos taken with the cameras of the Z Fold 4 are brighter and sharper.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 has a better Hinge

The hinge of both smartphones is very sturdy and feels really good. But, the reason why I prefer the hinge mechanism of the Galaxy Fold 4 to that of the Phantom V Fold is that it can hold in different positions. For video conferencing and video calls, you can set up the Z Fold 4 on a table and use it as a mini laptop thanks to the hinge but you can’t do that with the Phantom V Fold (The case that comes with the Phantom V Fold has a stand that helps with this).

Phantom V Fold vs Galaxy Z Fold 4: Durability

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has more durability features than the Phantom V Fold. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is IPX8 water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min) and has an Armor aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance. The Phantom V Fold does not have any of the durability features above.

Both smartphones did survive our bend test but note that the inner foldable screen is very fragile and any sharp object can cause significant damage. Also, a fall from table height can cause serious damage to the screen and back panel of both phones.

Phantom V Fold vs Galaxy Z Fold 4: Battery & Charging

The Phantom V Fold has a bigger battery cell inside. A 4,400mAh battery powers the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 while a 5,000mAh battery powers the Tecno Phantom V Fold. The Phantom V Fold supports 45W wired fast charging while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports 25W wired fast charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports wireless charging while the Phantom V Fold does not.

Phantom V Fold vs Galaxy Z Fold 4: Software

The Tecno Phantom V Fold boots HiOS 13 Fold based on Android 13 out of the box and will get up to two years of software updates while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 boots One UI 4.0 based on Android 12L out of the box and will get up to four years of software updates.

From the experience, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a better software experience. The shortcuts, multi-tasking, and animation are just smoother on the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold is a very good foldable smartphone and the fact that it’s the most affordable foldable phone right now is an added advantage. But, it’s not as good as the Galaxy Z Fold 4 from Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is better than the Phantom V Fold in many areas and has more features.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports S PEN, and wireless charging, has more camera features, a better user experience, (software), and is more durable. If price and size are factors for you to consider, you should buy the Phantom V Fold otherwise, I recommend you buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
