Tecno Pova 5G Review

Display, Design and Build

I’ll kick things off from the display. The Tecno Pova 5G features a tall 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel, FHD+ resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate. With the display inside the Pova 5G, you can enjoy watching movies and playing games thanks to the big screen. The 120Hz refresh rate also makes using the display more smooth and fast.

The build materials of the Pova 5G is glass front, plastic back, and plastic frame. Its plastic back has this glossy finish and shiny touch to it. It retains fingerprints but wearing a protective case will reduce this.

Tecno Pova 5G has a flat screen design and a center punch hole that houses the selfie camera. Its rear camera is placed vertically and it houses three cameras. The speaker, charging port, and 3.5mm jack port is located at the bottom. While the side mounted fingerprint which doubles as the power button and the volume rocker buttons are located at the right.

Camera

Tecno Pova 5G features triple rear camera. It has a 50MP main camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Upfront it features a 16MP selfie camera. The photo quality from the 50MP main camera is average and there is no special features.

For example, the camera has no stabilization feature such as OIS or gyri-EIS. Also, the photo from the camera s pretty good but lacks good balancing when it comes to light. So, sometimes your photos might look darker even in good light conditions.

This is something a software update fix plus if you know how to use the default camera edit app inside the Pova 5G, you can edit balance the light. However, the Pova 5G can record 4k videos using its back and front camera. This is something that is very impressive even though the Tecno Pova lineup is not to be camera smartphones.

Chipset and Performance

The chipset inside the Tecno Pova 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G. This chipset is very impressive as it features really good CPU and GPU for a device in the mid-range segment. Its CPU speed is clocked at 2.4 GHz and has a peak download speed of 2.77 Gbps.

Dimensity 900 5G chip has support for UFS 3.1 fast storage tech and LPDDR5 RAM. So, when it comes to performance, the chipset inside the Pova 5G offers so much for speed. Coupled with the 120Hz refresh rate of the display, you’ll get smooth user experience and fast performance.

RAM and Storage

Tecno Pova 5G features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The storage technology is UFS 3.1 while the RAM is LPDDR5 which are really fast tech. It has space for storage expansion via microSD card.

Battery

The battery inside the Tecno Pova 5G is 6,000mAh with 18W charge. There is wireless charge and no reverse wireless charge inside. The battery is pretty big and can last you for a very long time. But, charging the battery will take lots of time as 18W can’t charge a 6,000mAh that fast.

Software

Tecno Pova 5G runs HiOS 8 based on Android 11 out of the box. It would be nice if Tecno has publicly promised any major software update for the device. But, as at the time of writing this review, the company is yet to make such announcement.

This means, the Tecno Pova 5G might remain Android 11 all the days of its life. Which is sad for a phone with this much potential. However, Pova 5G will be getting monthly security patches and you can use the Google Mobile Services. You can download games and apps from the Google Play Store.
