Since August 2020, the BlackBerry brand has been part of Onward Mobility’s portfolio. And we’ve been hearing rumours of a brand new BlackBerry smartphone in the works. But it seems we might actually see an actual BB smartphone soon.
Onward Mobility launched a pre-commitment program today, suggesting the possibility that a new handset might finally be on the way.

The launched program is a subscription list for the company’s partners and fans. These fans and partners will be the first to receive “product, feature, and availability updates” before the general public.
According to the information on Onward Mobility’s website, these people (fans) and organizations (partners) can provide direct input and influence features and functionality of the products that’ll be released.

From what the page shows, a smartphone is already been developed – might be the next BlackBerry phone. And it appears the phone will have keyboard and also rock 5G network.
There is currently no news about its chipset, RAM and storage. But its most likely to run Android OS – Apple won’t be sharing its iOS and using HarmonyOS is not an option on the table for now.
Onward Mobility is well experience in security software, but not so much in mobile hardware and software. Maybe that is why it’s turning to partners like telecoms and influencers who know the audience better.
We still have to wait to see the actual phone and the features it’ll bring. If you’ve missed BB phones, maybe you might actually see one soon, thanks to Onward Mobility. Stay tune.
