iPadOS 16 supported iPads: iPadOS 16 is here to replace the iPadOS 15, and Apple has included some game-changing features for iPad users. Some of the features are exclusive to iPads that are powered by the M1 chip but overall, some of the new iPadOS 16 bring significant changes.

Some of the notable changes include support for Metal 3 API for gaming, a new Stage Manager for multi-tasking, and the ability to run desktop-class apps. However, not all iPad models will be able to install the iPadOS 16. Apple has dropped support for some of its older iPad models.

List of iPadOS 16 supported iPads

Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 won’t be getting the iPadOS 16 updates. Below is the list of all the iPad Models that can install the iPadOS 16 updates:

  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad (8th generation)
  • iPad (9th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad Air (4th generation)
  • iPad Air (5th generation)
  • iPad Mini (4th generation)
  • iPad Mini (5th generation)
  • iPad Pro (1st generation)
  • iPad Pro (2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro (3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro (4th generation)
  • iPad Pro (5th generation)

Note that not all features coming with the iPadOS 16 won’t work on every iPad Model. You’ll need more powerful and recent hardware to be able to use them. For example, the desktop-class apps and Stage Manager features are exclusive to iPad models that are powered by the Apple M1 chip.

There are about 15 iPad models that will be getting the iPadOS 16 updates. The oldest on the list is the iPad Pro from 2015. If you have any of the iPad Models listed above, the iPadOS 16 software will be available this Fall (by September).
