OnePlus 11 vs Motorola X40: Display, Design, and Durability

The OnePlus 11 and Motorola X40 have a 6.7-inch AMOLED curved display that supports HDR10+. The display of the Motorola X40 is FHD+ and supports a 165Hz refresh rate while that of the OnePlus 11 is QHD+ and supports 120Hz. Both phones have curved screens but the punch hole is on the top left corner of the screen in the OnePlus 11 while it’s in the top center of the Motorola X40.

On the rear, both smartphones also look different. The OnePlus 11 has a circular rear camera module while the Motorola Moto X40 has a square rear camera module. The pictures above best describe the difference in design between the OnePlus 11 and Motorola X40.

As for durability, both smartphones are made of Glass fronts, glass back (Gorilla Glass), and aluminum frames but only the Motorola X40 is certified to be IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins). The display of both smartphones is protected by Gorilla Glass. The OnePlus 11 weighs about 205 g (7.23 oz) while the Motorola X40 weighs about 199 g (7.02 oz).

Both smartphones have volume buttons, a power button, stereo speakers, a microphone, and Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by). None of the phones have a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack port. The OnePlus 11 has a dedicated slider button that is not available in the Motorola X40.

The camera system on both phones is similar. Both smartphones have the same 50-megapixel main camera but different front cameras, telephoto cameras, and ultra-wide cameras. The Motorola X40 has a 60-megapixel front camera that can record videos in 4K resolution while the OnePlus 11 has a 16-megapixel front camera than can record videos in 1080p resolution.

The OnePlus 11 has a 32-megapixel telephoto camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera while the Motorola X40 has a 12-megapixel telephoto camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The ultra-wide cameras on both phones have AF features and the telephoto cameras on both phones can do 2x optical zoom.

The cameras on both smartphones are impressive but the Motorola X40 has a better front camera in addition to a good rear camera system. This makes the Motorola X40 a better camera phone than the OnePlus 11.

The performance of the OnePlus 11 and Motorola X40 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and this means that the performance of both smartphones is very similar. The cooling systems on both phones are different but both phones can play graphics-intensive games with ease.

The storage options available on both smartphones are different. The storage options available in the Motorola Moto X40 are 8GB RAM + 128GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB storage while the storage options available in the OnePlus 11 are 12GB RAM + 256GB, 16GB RAM + 256GB, and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage. None of these phones have space for storage expansion via a microSD card slot.

The OnePlus 11 boots ColorOS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box while the Motorola X40 boots MYUI 5.0 based on Android 13 out of the box. Both smartphones are expected to get three years of major software updates and security patches. The UI, icons, settings, navigation, etc on both smartphones are different. The OnePlus 11 is available in green and black colors while the Motorola X40 is available in black and blue colors.

The Motorola X40 and OnePlus 11 have more similarities than there are differences. Both smartphones have the same chipset, similar camera system, build quality, and the same curved screen. But, the Motorola X40 is water and dustproof has faster wired charging, and supports wireless charging. In comparison, the OnePlus 11 has a brighter display, a bigger battery, and more RAM and storage.

Although both phones have similar features, I’ll recommend the Motorola X40 ahead of the OnePlus 11 because of its wireless charging, water and dustproof protection, and 60MP front camera. But, if you need a phone with a bigger battery then buy the OnePlus 11.
