OPPO launched the phone in China in November 2022 and it’s expected to start shipping by early December. The OPPO Reno 9 Pro Plus is an affordable premium smartphone from OPPO. It is the successor to the OPPO Reno 8 Pro Plus that was released a few months back. This phone features a Qualcomm chipset, an impressive 16GB RAM, and a new design. To know more about this phone, let’s break down the key specifications of this device starting with the chipset, CPU, and GPU.

Chipset, CPU, and GPU

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro Plus features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This is a 5G chipset built on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and features an Octa-core processor. The chipset has an Octa-core CPU with a maximum speed clocked at 3.00GHz. The CPU cores are made of one Cortex-X2 (performance core), three Cortex-A710 (prime cores), and three Cortex-A510 (efficiency cores).

The CPU cores are paired with the Adreno 730 GPU and the chipset in this phone features the Qualcomm Spectra ISP, the Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor AI engine, and Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System. Using the ISP, this phone can encode and decode videos in 8K resolution (but this phone can only record videos in 4K resolution), play graphics-intensive games, and supports NFC, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, etc.

Cameras

OPPO Reno 9 Pro+ features a triple rear camera system and a dual front camera. On the rear, it has a 50MP OIS primary camera that is supported by an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 32MP front camera.

The 50MP rear camera can record steady videos in 4K resolution while the 32MP front camera can record videos in 1080p resolution. Other camera features include Night mode, portrait mode, LED dual-tone flash, AutoFocus, HDR, panorama, gyro-EIS, HDR10, multi-directional PDAF, etc.

Display, Design, and Durability

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro+ has a 6.7-inch curved OLED display with FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2412 pixels). The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 900 nits. The phone is made of a Glass front (Asahi Glass) and aluminum frame.

The edges of the front screen are curved and it has a center punch hole on the top screen. On the rear, it has a camera module where the three rear camera sensors and LED flash are placed. The volume rocker and power button are on the right side of the frame of the phone. Its microphone, stereo speaker grill, and USB Type-C charging port are on the bottom of the frame.

The dimension of the phone measure about 161.5 x 73.6 x 8 mm (6.36 x 2.90 x 0.31 in) and it weighs about 192g (6.77 oz). It has Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) and stereo speakers but there is no space for a microSD card and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

RAM, Storage, and Battery

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro Plus comes in two storage configurations. It has 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB storage versions. There is no microSD card slot for users to expand storage but users can always make use of cloud storage services when storage is full.

OPPO Reno 9 Pro+ is powered by a 4,700mAh battery and it has support for 80W wired fast charging and 5W reverse wired charging but has no wireless charging. It’ll take about 30 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 100% using the 80W wired charger.

Software and Other Features

The OPPO Reno 9 Pro Plus boots ColorOS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box. This phone is expected to get about three years of software updates. You can download and install apps from the Google Play Store on this phone and even download major updates over OTA.
