The race for a smartphone without notch started late in 2019. And this gave birth to the Under-Display Camera technology. For those who don’t know, Under-Display camera technology is a tech that allows cameras to function under the screen of a smartphone.
With the tech, user won’t see any notch or hole in the front screen or display. Smartphones use to have very big bezels at the top that houses the front cameras. Then the iPhone X came with a small notch and other smartphone OEMs pick it up from there.
Since the debut of the iPhone X, we’ve seen even smaller notches like Infinity U notch, cut out notch, and punch hole. Well, the future is no notch with the front camera under the display.
So far, there are three known companies with the Under-Display Camera Technology – Xiaomi, Samsung, or ZTE.
Xiaomi will be bringing its first phone with its Under-Display camera tech and rumor has it that it’ll be the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. Samsung’s first phone to use its Under-Display Camera tech will be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. And the first ZTE phone to make use of its Under-Display tech is the ZTE Axon 30.
And this fuel the question, between Xiaomi’s, Samsung’s, and ZTE’s Under-Display Camera tech, which is the best?
Well, there are at least two things to consider here. First, the screen display quality of the smartphone. Second, how is the picture quality when the camera is used to take selfies?
According to the popular leakster, @IceUniverse, when it comes to under-screen display effect, we will have Xiaomi > ZTE > Samsung. However, in terms of the under-screen camera effect, we will have Samsung > Xiaomi > ZTE.
Simply put, the screen display quality of Xiaomi is better than those of ZTE and Samsung – from the first instance. From the second instance, Samsung has better photo quality than Xiaomi and ZTE.
But ZTE’s executive, Lu Qianhao feels differently regarding this report. According to him, there is no need to worry. After the smartphones hit the public domain, he calls on “friends” to buy these devices for comparison.
The price of the ZTE Axon 30 is about $750 which makes it the cheapest phone with the Under-Display camera tech. Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will well be priced above the $1,000 mark.
While ZTE might not have come out as number one in the report, it sure is the most affordable for users.
