Xiaomi has become a very big name in the smartphone industry. And the company already has the Mi Mix Fold foldable in its belt but it seems the company is ready to try something new. New report has shown that the company is working on a clamshell flip phone. Here are the details.

The company has patented a new clamshell flip device at the Chinese National Intellectual Property Association (CNIPA). This device has similar design as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. It has two rear camera, a small display on the cover, and a dual selfie cameras.

Right now, there are just three clamshell flip phones: the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the Motorola Razr, and the recently released Huawei P50 Pocket. With the release of the OPPO Find N from OPPO, the statement is clear that more companies are looking into the foldable smartphone area.

The new Xiaomi’s clamshell flip phone features a pill-shaped punch hole on the inside for dual front-facing cameras. The SIM slot, a USB-C, and a speaker grill are located at the bottom, while the power key and volume rocker are on the right-hand side.

We can’t say Xiaomi is testing the waters here as the company is already familiar with the foldable market. This means the company is joining Motorola, Samsung, and Huawei in the clamshell flip phone market.

This new device might be released soon but not this year. If anything, we can expected to see this new flip phone form Xiaomi in the first Quarter of 2022.
