Display and Design

When it comes to displays, both phones have more similarities with few differences. Both phones have the same 2K display, the same AMOLED panel, the same 120Hz refresh rate, the same LTPO display technology, and the same display size (6.8-inches).

Another display feature that is similar on both phones is the curved screen (the screen of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is more curved). Both phones are also water and dust-resistant (rated IP68 and can be used underwater for 30 minutes).

One noticeable difference in the display and design of both phones is the punch hole. The Honor Magic4 Pro has a bigger punch hole that is located at the top left while the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a small punch hole at the top center. Another difference is that the display of the Honor Magic4 Pro is protected by Aluminosilicate glass while that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ (the Glass Victus+ is stronger).

Camera

The Honor Magic 4 Pro comes with a total of six cameras. It has a 50MP main camera with multi-directional PDAF and Laser AF. The main camera is supported by a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS and 3.5x optical zoom feature, a 50MP Ultra-wide lens, and a TOF 3D depth sensor. Upfront it has a 12MP selfie camera and a TOF 3D depth sensor lens.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a total of five cameras (four at the rear and one upfront): At the rear, the S22 Ultra has a 108MP main camera Laser AF and OIS, a 10MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS and 10x optical zoom, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera with super steady video feature. While upfront it comes with a 40MP main camera.

The Honor Magic 4 Pro has really impressive camera features and quality. Its TOF 3D depth sensor does a good job of blurring the background and keeping the subject in focus. But it’s still behind the photo and video game when compared to the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The cameras of the Galaxy S22 Ultra have better stabilization features and its telephoto lens has 10x optical zoom whereas the telephoto lens of the Magic 4 Pro maxes out at 3.5x. The rear camera of the Galaxy phone can shoot video up to 8K resolution but the Magic4 Pro can only shoot in 4K resolution. The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with lots of video and photo features built inside the software and even though the Magic4 Pro has its own features, it’s still not able to compete with what the Galaxy phone brings to the table.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the better camera smartphone between these two. The cameras of the Honor Magic4 Pro are really good but it has limited photography and videography features.

Performance | Storage | RAM | 5G

The performance you get on both smartphones is very similar. This is because the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers both smartphones. Both phones have the same CPU cores, the same CPU clock speed, the same GPU cores, the same ISP, the same NPU, and the same AI chips.

These two phones have support for 5G network connectivity. The RAM options for both phones also start from 8GB but the internal storage option of the Galaxy S22 Ultra starts from 128GB while that of the Magic4 Pro starts from 256GB. The maximum internal storage of the Honor Magic4 Pro is 512GB but that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is 1TB.

Software

The Honor Magic4 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra boot Android 12 out of the box. Honor has promised three years of major software updates for the Magic4 Pro while Samsung has promised four years of major software updates for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This means the Magic 4 Pro will get OS update up to Android 15 while the Galaxy S22 Ultra will get up to Android 16.

So, between the Honor Magic 4 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra which is better?

Well, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has better camera hardware and more camera features. It also has a better software update plan and powerful chipset that will perform for a longer time. Even though the Magic4 Pro has the same display technology and features as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the display of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is brighter. But it’s also the more expensive phone considering the price for the base model.

Note that the Honor Magic4 Pro has a better charging solution and offers twice the storage for a lower price.
