iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best-selling iPhone 14: The Apple iPhone 14 series are currently in pre-order and the first sale of the device will start come September 16th, 2022. But so far, it seems that people are buying the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max more than any other iPhone 14. Why are people interested in buying the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max instead of the cheaper iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus? Well, it might be a price-related issue.

According to one report from Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is currently the best-selling iPhone 14 so far. He said that the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max make up 85% of offline pre-orders in China while demand for the iPhone 14 Plus is below 5%. This is because users have pre-ordered the $1099 device more than any other iPhone 14 so far.

Why iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best-selling iPhone 14

The starting price of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is $999 and $1099 in the US respectively. With this price, users get a smoother LTPO 120Hz display, an Always-on display feature, a new front design, a new 48MP main camera sensor, and the latest A16 Bionic chipset. This makes the PRO models more pleasing to buy compared to the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.

To compare, the starting price of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is $799 and $899 respectively. This makes the iPhone 14 Plus $100 less than the 14 Pro and $200 less than the 14 Pro Max. So, for $100 or $200 extra, you can get all the PRO features. This looks like a better deal for most users.

Another reason for the poor sales of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are its predecessors. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have the same chipset and fewer camera sensors compared to the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. And with the release of the iPhone 14 series, the iPhone 13 series are getting a price cut. So, it makes more sense to buy the iPhone 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max because then users will get more value for the money.

The choice of design, chipset, and display used by Apple in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is another reason why users might not be demanding the phones right now. This choice puts the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus in an awkward situation when making a purchase decision. Spend a little extra and get more features with the iPhone 14 Pro models or spend a similar amount and get more features with the iPhone 13 Pro models.

So far, the demand for iPhone 14 Pro Max has surpassed that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max from last year while the demand for the iPhone 14 Pro is the same as the demand for iPhone 13 Pro from last year. In contrast, the demand for the iPhone 14 Plus is not so encouraging and it appears to be worse than the demand for the iPhone 13 Mini.

Maybe if the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus had featured the same Dynamic Island and the same chipset as the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, it would have tickled the fancy of more users. What do you think?
