Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is the second phone in the Galaxy S22 series released by Samsung in 2022. Its the successor to the Galaxy S21 Plus released in 2021. It shares same chipset as the S22 Ultra but has smaller display and battery.

Chipset, CPU and GPU

Samsung is launching the Galaxy S22 Plus in two different versions. There will be version that features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm and another version that features the Exynos 2200 chip from Samsung.

Both chipsets comes with different CPU cores, GPU, cores, ISP, and NPU. This means, there is going to be slight difference when it comes to performance of both versions of the Galaxy S22 Plus. In our review of both versions, I’ll explain which is better and why.

Cameras

The camera inside the different versions of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is same. A 50MP main camera with Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS. Then there is a 10MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical. And lastly, a 12MP ultra-wide lens with ultra-steady video mode to complete the triple rear camera.

Upfront there is a 10MP selfie camera that record dual video and also shoot videos in 4k resolution. There is a total of four cameras inside this phone (three at the back and one upfront). The back camera can shoot videos in 8K resolution.

Display, Design, and Build

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is 6.55-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with features such as 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and LTPO 2.0 adaptive technology. Its peak brightness is expected to be 1300 nits.

The build of the device is: Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), aluminum frame. Its also water and dust resistant (IP68 rated). It has no 3.5mm jack and the speaker and charging port is located at the bottom.

The design of the device looks similar to that of the Galaxy S21+. Its camera module looks like the one from last year and it also has a flat display. It also has a center punch hole that houses the selfie camera.

RAM, Storage and Battery

The device is expected to come in different storage options: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB. The RAM and storage technology are: LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 respectively. It has no space for storage expansion.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is powered by a 4,800mAh battery with 25W fast charge. Other charging features include: USB Power Delivery 3.0, Fast Qi/PMA wireless charging 15W, and Reverse wireless charging 4.5W.

Software and Sensors

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus boots OneUI 4.0 based on Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has promised three years of software updates and five years of security patches for this smartphone. Games and Apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store and you have access to use all Google Mobile Services.

There are lots of sensors and AI inside this phone. It has support for Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX (desktop experience support), Bixby natural language commands and dictation, Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified), Ultra Wideband (UWB) support, and Fingerprint (under display, ultrasonic).
