Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first true 2022 flagship phone from Samsung. It’s the successor of the Galaxy S21 Ultra of last year. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first Samsung phone that is not a Galaxy Note to come with an inbuilt S PEN.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Specifications

Chipset, CPU, and GPU

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will come in two different versions based on the chipset inside. There will be a version launched in the US, UK, China, and India that will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip inside. While there is going to be a different version to have the Samsung Exynos 2200 chip inside.

Note that both the CPU and GPU inside both versions are different. Hence, both phones won’t be having the same performance. When the phone launch and we do a proper review, I’ll update a review of both phones to know which is better in real-life tests.

Cameras

Regardless of the chipset inside, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has the same camera sensors and features. It has a 108MP main camera that has features such as OIS, dual PIXEL PDAF, and Laser AF. It also has a 10MP periscope telephoto lens that has dual-pixel PDAF, OIS, and 10x optical zoom.

The last two cameras at the rear are a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens with super steady video mode.

Upfront there is a 40MP selfie camera that can shoot videos in 4k resolution. The back camera can shoot videos in 8k resolution for those that are heavily into videography. That makes a total of 5 cameras inside the Galaxy S22 Ultra (4 cameras a the rear, one upfront).

Display, Design, and Build

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is 6.8-inch QHD+ or 2K Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with features such as 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and LTPO 2.0 adaptive technology. Its peak brightness is expected to be 1500 nits.

Its build materials are Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), and aluminum frame. It has no 3.5mm jack port and it’s rated IP68 water and dust resistance. At the bottom, it has a space to accommodate and charge the S PEN at the bottom of the device.

As per the design, the front display is curved on both sides. It also maintains this box-like touch to house the stereo speakers and the back glass looks really shiny (at least from renders so far). in a nutshell, Its display, build, and design are of top quality.

RAM, Storage, and Battery

The device is expected to come in different storage options: 12GB + 128GB, 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 512 GB. The RAM and storage technologies are LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 respectively. It has no space for storage expansion and there have been rumors of a 1TB storage version.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with a 25W fast charge. Other charging features include USB Power Delivery 3.0, Fast Qi/PMA wireless charging 15W and Reverse wireless charging 4.5W.

Software and Sensors

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra boots OneUI 4.0 based on Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has promised four years of software updates and five years of security patches for this smartphone. Games and Apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store and you have access to use all Google Mobile Services.

There are lots of sensors and AI inside this phone. It has support for Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX (desktop experience support), Bixby natural language commands and dictation, Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified), Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, and Fingerprint (under display, ultrasonic).
