The “S24” is a flagship phone, but how much of a difference is it compared to the Galaxy A55? Let’s find out below.

1. Price and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is cheaper because it’s a midrange phone. It has a starting price of €480 for the 8/128 GB model. In contrast, being a member of the flagship “S-series), the Galaxy S24 is more expensive with a starting price of €760 for the 8/256 GB version. Both smartphones are now available for purchase.

2. Display, Design and Durability

A stare at both devices, you’ll notice the design language is similar but the build material differs. Both smartphones have a dot-in display, the front and back are made of glass and the rear cameras are aligned vertically. However, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is more premium.

As for durability, The Galaxy S24 uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both front and rear, while the Galaxy A55 uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front (no official word on the glass material on the rear). Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is said to be more durable and scratch-resistant than Victus+.

As for their displays, the Galaxy S24 is the best. It’s compact with a screen size of 6.2-inch (vs. 6.6-inch of Galaxy A55). Both smartphones have a Super AMOLED touchscreen but the Galaxy S24 panel is LTPO with variable refresh rate and it has a brighter screen too. Nonetheless, both phones have 120Hz and FHD+ resolution.

3. Performance- Samsung Galaxy S24 is Faster

Performance-wise, the Galaxy S24 is superior. It comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G or Exynos 2400 5G chipset depending on your region, paired with 8/12 GB RAM and 128/256/512 GB storage models. In contrast, the Galaxy A55 is powered by the midrange Exynos 1480 5G chipset, paired with 8 GB RAM and 128/256 GB storage model. Overall, the Galaxy S24 is up to 4x faster and better equipped for gaming.

4. Camera Comparison

The Galaxy A55 has a 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera, while on the rear there’s a 50MP f/1.8 primary shooter with OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultrawide camera, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera.

The Galaxy S24 comes with a 12MP f/2.2 front-facing unit, a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultrawide shooter, and a 10MP f/2.4 3x telephoto lens.

Samsung Galaxy S24 can record video in 8k resolution and has a more versatile camera setup. The zooming capabilities are better and the same with the ultra-wide lens. Moreover, the night photography is spot on.

5. Software- Galaxy S24, King of Software

Samsung Galaxy S24 is getting 7 years of software upgrades. While Samsung Galaxy A55 is getting 4 years of software updates. But they both have OneUI 6.1 skin based on Android 14 out of the box.

Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S24 being a flagship phone has the Galaxy AI software installed. Things like live translation, circle to search, etc are all available only in the flagship Galaxy S24.

6. Battery life

Samsung Galaxy A55 has a better battery life than the Galaxy S24. The A55 comes with a 5,000 mAh capacity + 25W wired charging system. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 brings 4,000 mAh capacity with 25W wired and 15W wireless technology.

Samsung Galaxy S24 is better than the Galaxy A55. But the better version is also more expensive. Excluding the price difference of €300, the Galaxy S24 has faster performance, a better camera, more durability, a better software experience, and a more premium design body.
