About Samsung Galaxy S22

Samsung Galaxy S22 is the third phone in the Galaxy S22 series released by Samsung in 2022. Its replacing the Galaxy S21 from last year. This device is also the most compact smartphone in the Galaxy S22 series and more fitting for one hand use.

Samsung Galaxy S22

Chipset, CPU and GPU

Following its normal tradition, Samsung will be launching two different versions of the Galaxy S22. One version will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Chip. While the other version will be powered by the Samsung Exynos 2200 chip.

Both chipsets are 5G enabled with built in 5G MODEM. But, both chips have different CPU cores, GPU cores, AI, ISP, and NPU. This means that both versions won’t be having exact performance in real life usage. I’ll publish a comparison review of both versions to show which is better.

Cameras

The camera inside the different versions of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is same. A 50MP main camera with Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS. Then there is a 10MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical. And lastly, a 12MP ultra-wide lens with ultra-steady video mode to complete the triple rear camera.

Upfront there is a 10MP selfie camera that record dual video and also shoot videos in 4k resolution. There is a total of four cameras inside this phone (three at the back and one upfront). The back camera can shoot videos in 8K resolution. This is same camera set up and features inside the Galaxy S22 Plus.

Display, Design, and Build

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is 6.06-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with features such as 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and LTPO 2.0 adaptive technology. Its peak brightness is expected to be 1300 nits.

Its build materials are: Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), aluminum frame. Its also water and dust resistant (IP68 rated). It has no 3.5mm jack with the speaker and charging port located at the bottom.

Galaxy S22 features very similar designs as its predecessor with a center punch hole housing the selfie camera. Its has a flat screen and also retains same camera module and general look as the Galaxy S21 from last year.

RAM, Storage and Battery

Samsung Galaxy S22 comes in different storage options: 8GB + 128GB storage model, and 8GB + 256GB model. The RAM and storage technology are: LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 respectively. It has no space for storage expansion.

Galaxy S22 is powered by a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charge. Other charging features include: USB Power Delivery 3.0, Fast Qi/PMA wireless charging 15W, and Reverse wireless charging 4.5W.

Software and Sensors

Samsung Galaxy S22 boots OneUI 4.0 based on Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has promised three years of software updates and five years of security patches for this smartphone. Games and Apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store and you have access to use all Google Mobile Services.

There are lots of sensors and AI inside this phone. It has support for Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX (desktop experience support), Bixby natural language commands and dictation, Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified), Ultra Wideband (UWB) support, and Fingerprint (under display, ultrasonic).
